Herb Henderson (Australian Footballer)
Herbert John Henderson (13 September 1930 – 31 July 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who was recruited by Footscray Football Club (now Western Bulldogs), in the Victorian Football League, now AFL from Mildura Imperials for the 1950 season. That year, he could get no higher than second reserve, but the following year he established himself firmly, and was one of a number of new players who drove Footscray from tenth to fourth on the ladder. He was regarded as perhaps the finest full-back of his time, with a reputation for keeping the best full-forwards, including champion John Coleman, to low scores. Coleman never had more than four goals in five contests with him. Henderson was fairly tall at 187 cm (6 feet 2 inches) but slightly built for a key position player. In the sport of Australian rules football, each of the eighteen players in a team is assigned to a particular named position on the field of play. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. Wally Donald
Wally Donald (27 May 1927 – 8 November 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Although Donald played only one senior game in the 1946 season for Braybrook, from 1947 to 1957 he was a fixture of the Footscray team and missed only eight of 206 games. Recruited by Footscray as a versatile player, he was originally seen as part of the team's midfield; he was moved to defence as his defensive abilities became apparent, and by 1948 he was established on the half-back flank. Donald played his first final in 1948, named on the half-back flank in the first semi-final against . In team sport, team of the century and team of the decade are hypothetical best teams over a given time period. For the century team, it can be either 100 years, or for a century (always the 20th). Similarly the team of the decade can be for 10 years or a decade (for example the 1980s). Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925.
