Herb Donaldson (American Football Player)
Herb Donaldson (born December 13, 1985) is a former American football running back in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in 2009. He played college football at Western Illinois. Early years Donaldson attended Christian Brothers College High School. As a senior, he registered 1,356 rushing yards, 20 touchdowns and 39 tackles. He had 241 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns against St. Louis University High School. He was named conference co-player of the year and received All-Metro honors as a linebacker. He accepted a football scholarship from Western Illinois University. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. In American football, the specific role that a player takes on the field is referred to as their "position". In sports, the practice squad, also called the taxi squad or practice roster, is a group of players signed by a team but not part of their main roster. Frequently used in gridiron football, they serve as extra players during the team's practices, often as part of the scout team by emulating an upcoming opponent's play style. 2009 NFL Draft
The 2009 NFL Draft was the seventy-fourth annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The draft took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, on April 25 and 26, 2009. The draft consisted of two rounds on the first day, starting at 4:00 pm EDT, and five rounds on the second day, starting at 10:00 am EDT. To compensate for the time change from the previous year and in an effort to help shorten the draft, teams were no longer on the clock for 15 minutes in the first round and 10 minutes in the second round. Walter Payton Award
The Walter Payton Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding offensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) of college football as chosen by a nationwide panel of media and college sports information directors. The honor was first given in 1987 to the outstanding player in the division, but in 1995, eligibility was restricted to offensive players, as the Buck Buchanan Award for defensive players was inaugurated. The award was named in honor of the late National Football League (NFL) legend Walter Payton, who starred at Jackson State University in the early 1970s.
