Her Second Chance (1926 Film)
''Her Second Chance'' is a 1926 American silent romantic drama film directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Anna Q. Nilsson. It was produced by First National Pictures and distributed through Vitagraph Company of America. Plot As described in a film magazine review, young Kentucky woman Caroline Logan has been sentenced to two years in jail for shooting a sheriff who was attempting to evict her from her home. On her release, she vows to get revenge on Judge Clay Jeffries, who had imposed the sentence. The enemies of Jeffries agree to fight her case and win, and the sale of her property makes her a rich woman. She invests in racehorses and her attorney advisor Beachey, who had assisted in her plan to seek vengeance on the judge, has their own plan to blackball the judge in a scandal that would prevent his reelection. Lambert Hillyer
Lambert Harwood Hillyer (July 8, 1893 – July 5, 1969) was an American film director and screenwriter. Biography Lambert Harwood Hillyer was born July 8, 1893, in Tyner, Indiana. His mother was character actress Lydia Knott. A graduate of Drake University, Drake College, he worked as a newspaper reporter and an actor in vaudeville and stock theater. During World War I he began working in motion pictures and became a prolific director and screenwriter, working on many silent-era Westerns by William S. Hart, Buck Jones, Tom Mix and others. Often associated with producer Thomas H. Ince, Hillyer expanded into romantic melodramas and crime films in the 1920s. In 1936 he directed two chillers for Universal Studios, Universal, the science-fiction film ''The Invisible Ray (1936 film), The Invisible Ray'' and the cult horror film ''Dracula's Daughter''. Dale Fuller (born Marie Dale Phillipps; June 17, 1885 – October 14, 1948) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1915 and 1935. She is best known for her role as the maid in ''Foolish Wives''. Early life Marie Dale Phillipps was born in Santa Ana, California on June 17, 1885. She attended convent schools in Los Angeles and Chicago. Fan magazines from the time claimed that she attended and graduated from Mills College, and Myrtle Gebhardt reported that Fuller lost her family at 19. Fuller said family illness brought her to California, where she decided to act. Career In 1908, she performed as a soubrette in the comedy ''The Trouper''. She then joined the cast of Harry Bulgur’s ''The Flirting Princess'', a musical revue, in 1910 and toured with it off and on throughout San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, and Rhode Island. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library."
