Ukrainian Language
Ukrainian ( uk, украї́нська мо́ва, translit=ukrainska mova, label=native name, ) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. It is the native language of about 40 million people and the official state language of Ukraine in Eastern Europe. Written Ukrainian uses the Ukrainian alphabet, a variant of the Cyrillic script. The standard Ukrainian language is regulated by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NANU; particularly by its Institute for the Ukrainian Language), the Ukrainian language-information fund, and Potebnia Institute of Linguistics. Belarusian Language
Belarusian ( be, беларуская мова, biełaruskaja mova, link=no, ) is an East Slavic language. It is the native language of many Belarusians and one of the two official state languages in Belarus. Additionally, it is spoken in some parts of Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, and Ukraine by Belarusian minorities in those countries. Before Belarus gained independence in 1991, the language was only known in English as ''Byelorussian'' or ''Belorussian'', the compound term retaining the English-language name for the Russian language in its second part, or alternatively as ''White Russian''. Following independence, it became known as ''Belarusan'' and since 1995 as ''Belarusian'' in English. Heorhiy Buschan
Heorhiy Mykolayovych Bushchan ( ua, Георгій Миколайович Бущан, ro, Gheorghe Bușcean; born 31 May 1994) is a Ukrainian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Dynamo Kyiv in the Ukrainian Premier League. Club career Heorhiy began playing football in Odesa, where he attended Chornomorets Odesa football school. When he was fourteen, Bushchan moved to Kyiv, where he began playing for Dynamo Kyiv youth and reserve squads. He was a part of Dynamo's first team squad on and off from the 2011–12 season onwards. He made his debut until 20 August 2017, when he helped his team to a 4–1 Ukrainian Premier League victory over Stal Kamianske at NSC "Olimpiyskiy". Heorhiy Gongadze
Georgiy Ruslanovych Gongadze ka, გიორგი რუსლანის ძე ღონღაძე, Giorgi Ruslanis dze Ghonghadze (21 May 1969 – 17 September 2000) was a Georgian-Ukrainian journalist and film director who was kidnapped and murdered in 2000 near Kyiv. He founded the online newspaper '' Ukrainska Pravda'' along with Olena Prytula in 2000. The circumstances of his death became a national scandal and a focus for protests against then-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. During the Cassette Scandal, audiotapes were released on which Kuchma, Volodymyr Lytvyn and other top-level administration officials are heard discussing the need to silence Gongadze for his online news reports about high-level corruption. Heorhiy Mykolayovych Kirpa ( uk, Георгій Миколайович Кірпа) (20 July 1946 in Klubivka, Khmelnytskyi Oblast – 27 December 2004 in Bortnychi, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian railway manager, statesman and politician, best known as the head of the Ukrzaliznytsia national railway company and Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications under President Leonid Kuchma. Political career In May 2002, Kirpa was appointed Minister of Transport by the then President Leonid Kuchma and on April 23 was awarded an honourable title Hero of Ukraine. In a publicly debated move in 2003, the President placed paramilitary railroad armed forces under the direction of Kirpa. Kirpa was a staunch supporter of Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and the BBC described him as "one of the most influential figures" in Yanukovych's government. Heorhiy Maiboroda
Heorhiy Ilarionovych Maiboroda, sometimes transcribed in English as Georgiy or Heorhy Maiboroda or Mayboroda (Ukrainian: Георгій Іларіонович Майборода; , in Pelekhivshchyna khutir, Kremenchuk County, Poltava Governorate, Russia – 6 December 1992, in Kyiv, Ukraine), was a Ukrainian composer. Maiboroda, whose brother Platon Maiboroda was also a composer (mainly of songs), studied at the Glière College of Music in Kiev, where he studied under Levko Revutsky, graduating in 1941 and teaching there from 1952 to 1958. From 1967 to 1968 he was head of the Composers Union of Ukraine. Heorhiy Vadimovich Pohosov ( uk, Георгій Вадимович Погосов; born July 14, 1960), also known as George Pogosov, is a retired Soviet/Ukrainian sabre fencer. He won two Olympic medals. Biography Pohosov has a master's degree in physical education with a focus in fencing. He graduated from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine. His first coach was Mikhail Shimshovich. Pohosov was the coach of the Ukrainian National Team before coming to the US. In 1999, Pohosov came to Stanford University's fencing program. He is the co-head coach for the Stanford men’s and women’s varsity fencing teams as well as the head coach for the Cardinal Fencing Club, Stanford's recreational fencing outlet. Heorhiy Kyrylovych Tkachenko ( uk, Георгій Кирилович Ткаченко; 5 May 1898 in Hlushkovo, Kursk region of the Russian Empire – 1993 in Kyiv, Ukraine) was a Ukrainian bard and bandurist. Biography Tkachenko was able to complete his secondary education in the Kharkiv Art School before continuing his education in Moscow.
