Henryetta
Henryetta is a city in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,927 at the 2010 census, down 9.6 percent from the figure of 6,096 recorded in 2000. History Hugh Henry established a ranch on Creek Nation land in 1885. He soon found a deposit of coal, which he began using to fuel the forge at his ranch. Discovery of more coal deposits in the large Henryetta Coal Formation attracted several railroads to develop these mines. A settlement named Furrs grew up around the mines. Spelter City is a populated place within the city of Henryetta, Oklahoma. It is located northeast of Henryetta’s town center, and west of Dewar, Oklahoma. The area was originally a separate platted addition formally called the Henryetta Townsite Company, but which Henryetta annexed in 1916. Henryetta Coal Formation
The Henryetta Coal Formation is a geologic formation in Oklahoma. It contains fossils dating back to the Carboniferous period. As of a 1955 government report, the mapped area of the Henryetta mining district included about 168 square miles in Okmulgee County. Coal occurred in the Senora formation in two minable beds: the Morris bed and the overlying Henryetta bed. The Morris bed averaged about 16 inches in thickness, while the Henryetta coal bed averaged about 25 to 36 inches in thickness. The coal in both beds was of high volatile A and B bituminous ranks. Remaining coal reserves were estimated to be 275 million tons, 271 million tons of which was in the Henryetta bed.
