Henry Aaron Stern
Henry Aaron Stern (Unterreichenbach, near Gelnhausen, 11 April 1820 – Hackney, 13 May 1885) was an Anglican missionary and captive in Abyssinia. He was the youngest son of Aaron Stern, a Jew, and his wife Hannah, was born in the Duchy of Hessen-Kassel. His parents moved to Frankfurt during his childhood, and he went to school there. His father destined him for the medical profession but, at his son's special request, sent him to Hamburg when he was seventeen years old to be trained as a merchant. In 1839 Stern was offered a good appointment in London, but the firm failed, and he found himself unsuccessful in obtaining employment. While in London he was taken to the Palestine Place chapel, where, through the influence of Dr. McCaul, he converted to Christianity and was baptised on 15 March 1840. Henry Stern (New York Politician)
Henry Jordan Stern (May 1, 1935 – March 28, 2019) was a member of the New York City Council from 1974 to 1983 and appointed as the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation from 1983 to 1990 and again from 1994 to 2000. Early life Stern grew up in the Inwood neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, the son of Jean (Friedlander), a bookkeeper, and Walter Stern, a tent manufacturer. He attended Bronx High School of Science, graduating at 15. He attended City College and was the youngest member of the class of 1957 at Harvard Law School, at the age of twenty-two. Political career Stern began in public service in 1957 as law clerk to Matthew M. Levy, a New York State Supreme Court Justice. Henry Isaac Stern (born April 12, 1982) is an American politician elected to the California State Senate. He is a Democrat representing the 27th district, encompassing parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. He was elected in November 2016. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, he was an environmental attorney and senior advisor to his predecessor Fran Pavley. He is the first millennial elected to the California State Senate. He was also an American law lecturer at University of California, Los Angeles and UC Berkeley. Stern has served as counsel to Congressman Henry Waxman on the House Energy & Commerce Committee to help construct clean energy projects for businesses. He has also taught civics, founded a tech incubator, and advocated for juvenile justice.
