Major-General Henry Scott, 1st Earl of Deloraine KB (1676 – 25 December 1730) was a Scottish peer and army officer. Life Scott was the second surviving son of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth (the illegitimate son of King Charles II by his mistress Lucy Walter) by his wife Anne Scott, 1st Duchess of Buccleuch, daughter of Francis Scott, 2nd Earl of Buccleuch. In 1693, he married Anne Duncombe (d. 1720), a daughter of William Duncombe of Batthesden, Lord Chief Justice of Ireland. They had three surviving children: *Francis Scott, 2nd Earl of Deloraine (1710–39) *Henry Scott, 3rd Earl of Deloraine (1712–40) *Lady Anne Scott (c.1720–?), died unmarried. Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch and 5th Duke of Queensberry KG FRSE (2 September 174611 January 1812) was a Scottish nobleman and long-time friend of Sir Walter Scott. He is the paternal 3rd great-grandfather of Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, and the maternal 4th great-grandfather of Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Much of the family's lands and wealth were accumulated during Henry's tenure as Duke. He integrated the surnames "Montagu" and "Douglas" with the Scott family name to form the unhyphenated compound surname "Montagu Douglas Scott". Henry Scott (29 May 1836 – 16 December 1913) was a South Australian businessman, politician and mayor of Adelaide History Henry was the seventh son of Thomas Scott, of Boode House, near Braunton, in Devonshire, a member of an old Scottish family, and was educated in Bristol. At the age of 18 he followed his brother Abraham (ca.1817–1903) to Adelaide and helped run his wool-broking business, which he took over around 1866. He was one of the founders, and for many years a director, of the National Bank of Australasia, and was responsible for erection of the Eagle Chambers at the corner of Pirie Street and King William Street. He was appointed a director of the Bank of Adelaide in 1889, and held similar positions with the Queensland Investment and Land Mortgage Company, and the National Mutual Life Association. Henry James Herbert "Tup" Scott (26 December 1858 – 23 September 1910) was an Australian cricketer who played first-class cricket for Victoria and Test cricket for Australia. He acquired his nickname during a cricket tour of England in 1884 from his love of London sightseeing tours which cost two pence or " tuppence". Scott was born in Toorak, Victoria, and soon moved to Melbourne, where he began to play cricket at a high level. He made his first-class debut in February 1878, and was soon chosen for the Australian team. By the time of the 1886 Australian tour of England, he had been appointed captain, but he remained in England at the tour's conclusion to pursue a career in medicine, and played no further first-class cricket. Scott began as a right arm fast-medium bowler and achieved his best analysis of six wickets for 33 runs on his first-class debut. Sir Henry Harold Scott KCMG FRSE FRCP FRCS (3 August 1874 – 6 August 1956) was a 20th century British pathologist, bacteriologist and medical author. He was President of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 1943-1945. Life He was born on 3 August 1874 in Spalding the son of Rev Douglas Lee Scott LLD, later headmaster of Mercers' School, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Rogers. He was educated at the Mercers' School. He then trained at St. Thomas' Hospital and St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London. He served in the Second Boer War from 1902 in the South African Field Force, receiving the Queen's Medal with five clasps. Returning to England he served as a GP in Ludlow. In 1910 he received a government appointment of state pathologist to Jamaica and lived there for 4 years. Henry Young Darracott Scott RE (2 January 1822 – 16 April 1883) was an English Major-General in the Corps of Royal Engineers, best known for the construction of London's Royal Albert Hall. Early life The fourth son of Edward Scott of Plymouth, Devon, and was born there on 2 January 1822. He was educated privately at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Military career Scott obtained a commission as second lieutenant in the Royal Engineers on 18 December 1840. After going through the usual course of professional instruction at Chatham he was stationed at Woolwich and Plymouth in succession. Promoted to be first lieutenant on 19 December 1843, he went to Gibraltar in January 1844, where he was acting adjutant of his corps. While at Gibraltar he accompanied Arthur Penrhyn Stanley and his two sisters on a tour in Spain.
