Henry O'Brien, Lord Ibrackan, or Lord O'Brien (c. 1642 – 1 September 1678), styled Hon. Henry O'Brien until 1657, was an Irish nobleman and politician. He was the son of Henry O'Brien, 7th Earl of Thomond, and his first wife, and cousin, Anne O'Brien. He married Katherine Stuart, 7th Baroness Clifton, daughter of George Stuart, 9th Seigneur d'Aubigny and Lady Katherine Howard: the Aubigny Stuarts were a junior branch of the reigning House of Stuart. Henry O'Brien, 5th Earl of Thomond PC (Ire) (1588–1639), styled Lord Ibrickane until 1624, was summoned to the House of Lords of the Irish Parliament of 1613–1615. Birth and origins Henry was born the eldest son of Donogh O'Brien and Elizabeth FitzGerald. His father was the 4th Earl of Thomond. His father's family were the O'Briens, an important Gaelic Irish dynasty, that descended from Brian Boru, medieval high king of Ireland. Henry's mother was the fourth daughter of Gerald FitzGerald, 11th Earl of Kildare and his wife Mabel Brown. Henry O'Brien, 7th Earl of Thomond Privy Council of Ireland, PC (Ire) (c. 16202 May 1691) was an Irish peer, styled Lord Ibrackan from 1639 to 1657. O'Brien was the son of Barnabas O'Brien, 6th Earl of Thomond and Anne Fermor. In 1641, he married his first cousin Anne O'Brien (d. September 1645), daughter of Henry O'Brien, 5th Earl of Thomond, by whom he had one son: *Henry O'Brien, Lord Ibrackan, Henry, Lord Ibrackan (c. 1642 – 1678) After Anne's death, he married Sarah Russell, daughter of Sir Francis Russell, 2nd Baronet, of Chippenham, Sir Francis Russell, and widow of Sir John Reynolds (Roundhead), John Reynolds. Henry O'Brien, 8th Earl Of Thomond
Henry O'Brien, 8th Earl of Thomond (14 August 1688 – 20 April 1741) was an Irish peer and Member of Parliament. He was born the son of Henry Horatio O'Brien, Lord Ibrackan, who was to predecease his own father in 1690, allowing the title of Earl of Thomond to pass directly to Henry from his grandfather, Henry O'Brien, 7th Earl of Thomond one year later. He was elected MP for Arundel, Sussex in the Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1710, sitting until 1714. He was then ennobled as Viscount Tadcaster. He served as Governor of County Clare and Governor of Carlow in 1714 and as Lord Lieutenant of Essex from 1721 to 1741. The 1722 tragedy play ''Hibernia Freed'', staged at the Lincoln's Inn Fields Theatre, was dedicated to him by the author William Philips. He died in 1741 and was buried in Limerick Cathedral. Henry O'Brien (Australian Politician)
Henry O'Brien (179327 January 1866) was an Irish-born politician and pastoralist in New South Wales, Australia. Early life He was born at Hollymount in County Mayo to farmer Henry O'Brien and Catherine Browne. His father died when he was young and he and his brothers Cornelius and Thomas were raised by their uncle William Browne. He worked on his uncle's properties before migrating to Sydney via Calcutta, arriving in April 1816. His mother, uncle and brothers all arrived in Sydney in 1816. Henry assisted in managing a property at Abbotsbury, while Cornelious managed a property in the Illawarra. From 1821 Henry was granted at Bathurst where he established a sheep station. Thomas disappeared on a journey to Bathurst in 1823. O'Brien also acquired a sheep station at Jugiong, which he named Douro. Henry O'Brien (classicist)
Henry O'Brien (1808–1835) was an Irish classicist and author best known for his hypothesis concerning Irish round towers. Life Henry O'Brien was the son of an aristocratic family from the west of Ireland. At an early age he studied Latin and Greek and took an interest in ancient Greek literature. Later he obtained a degree in classics at Trinity College Dublin. In 1833 O'Brien published an essay in the ''Transactions of the Royal Irish Academy'' entitled "On the Origin and Use of the Round Towers of Ireland" which won a second place reward of £20. Henry O'Brien thought however that he should have won first place and in a lengthy preface to his published essay in book form entitled ''The Round Towers of Ireland, or the Mysteries of Freemasonry, of Sabaism, and of Buddhism'' (1834) attacked archaeologist George Petrie who won the £50 first place reward. Henry F. O'Brien (c. 1825 - July 14, 1863) was the colonel of the 11th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment who was killed during the New York City draft riots in 1863. As commander of the Fire Zouaves, he rallied around 150 infantry against approaching rioters in front of ''Oliver's Livery Stable'' near the East River. As police under Inspector Daniel C. Carpenter began withdrawing after fighting with rioters on Second Avenue, O'Brien arrived with two companies at 34th Street and Second Avenue. After a brief skirmish with the rioters, the mob retreated and O'Brien left his command and walked up the avenue entering a nearby drugstore. However, after a few moments, he was attacked by a group of rioters who had recognized him as he left the building. Henry Joseph O'Brien (July 21, 1896 – July 23, 1976) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the first Archbishop of Hartford from 1945 to 1968. Biography Henry O'Brien was born in New Haven, Connecticut, to Michael and Anna (née Sweeney) O'Brien. After graduating from New Haven High School in 1914, he studied at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield (1914-1917) and at St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, New York (1917-1919). In 1919, he was sent to the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where he was ordained to the priesthood on July 8, 1923. Following his return to the United States later that year, he served as a curate at St. Mary's, Windsor Locks until 1924, when he was transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas, Fairfield. He became a professor at St. Thomas Seminary in 1926, later becoming its vice-president (1932) and afterwards president (1934).
