Henry Munro (Canada West Politician)
Henry Munro (January 13, 1802 – December 20, 1874) was a farmer and political figure in Canada West. He was one of the founders of the Bond Head Harbour Company in 1838. He was named a justice of the peace in 1843 and was also a lieutenant in the local militia. Munro served as treasurer for Clarke Township. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 25 prior to 1999) refers to both the institution responsible for the operation of all English public schools in the city of Ottawa, Ontario and its governing body. Henry Munro (United Irishman)
Henry Munro (1758 – 1798) was a United Irishman born in Lisburn, County Down, who in 1798 commanded rebel forces, the United Army of Down, at the Battle of Ballynahinch. Life He was the only son of a Presbyterian tradesman of Scottish descent settled at Lisburn. His father died in 1793, leaving a widow whose maiden name had been Gorman. She brought up Henry and her two daughters in the Church of England and died at Lisburn about 1832. Henry received a mercantile education in his native town, and having gone through an apprenticeship entered the linen business about 1788. He afterwards paid frequent visits to England to buy silks and cloth and sell linen. While still a youth he joined the Irish Volunteers and is said to have been adjutant of the Lisburn corps. He is described as rather under middle height but strong and agile, with deep blue eyes and an intelligent expression, honourable in his dealings and prosperous in trade, a good speaker, romantic in his views and with ... Henry Munro (1730 – 30 May 1801) was a chaplain in the British Army who became a missionary to the Mohawk people during the 18th century. Early life Munro was born in Dingwall, Scotland in 1730. He was the son of physician Robert Munro and his wife, Anne Munro. According to his son-in-law, Donald Fisher, his paternal grandfather was Alexander Munro, Laird of Killichoan,Fisher, Arthur H. - "NY Gen. & Bio. Rec." Vol iv., #3 and his maternal grandparents were Sir John Munro, 4th Baronet, a Scottish nobleman, and Lady Agnes Mackenzie (a daughter of Kenneth Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Seaforth). Following the death of his parents, sixteen-year-old Harry enrolled at the University of Edinburgh where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Henry Smith Munroe (March 25, 1850 – May 4, 1933) (born Henry Maynard Smith) was an American geologist who worked in Meiji period Japan as a foreign advisor to the Japanese government. Biography Munroe was born in Brooklyn, New York and obtained a Masters of Engineering at Columbia University in 1869. From 1870 to 1871 he worked as Assistant Geologist with the Ohio State Geological Survey. Between 1870 and 1872 he occupied the post of Assistant Chemist at the United States Department of Agriculture. Hired by the Japanese government on a three-year contract from 1872 and 1875, Munroe was assigned to Yesso (now Hokkaidō), in northern Japan, as Assistant Geologist and Mining Engineer with the Geological Survey of Yesso for the Hokkaidō Colonization Agency. Sir Harry Munro, 7th Baronet (c. 1720 – 12 June 1781) was 25th Baron and the 28th chief of the Clan Munro. He was a Scottish soldier and politician. He was loyal to the Hanoverian dynasty and served as a captain in Loudon's Highlanders Regiment 1745–48. Early life Harry Munro was the second surviving son of Sir Robert Munro, 6th Baronet and Mary, daughter of Henry Seymour of Woodlands. His elder brother Robert having died in infancy. His uncle was George Munro, 1st of Culcairn. Early military career Sir Harry's military career seems to have started when he was among nine young gentlemen appointed Ensigns in Bisset's Regiment later the 30th Regiment of Foot in May 1742. Henry Munro-Butler-Johnstone
Henry Alexander Munro-Butler-Johnstone (7 December 1837 – 17 October 1902) was a British author and Conservative Party politician. Born as Henry Alexander Butler-Johnstone, he was the son of Henry Butler-Johnstone (himself born Hon. Henry Butler), a younger son of the 13th Baron Dunboyne, by his wife Isabella Margaret Munro, daughter of Sir Alexander Munro. His father took the surname Butler-Johnstone to honour an inheritance from his wife's uncle, and he himself took the additional surname Munro from his mother in 1874. He was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating in 1861 with a first-class Bachelor of Arts degree in classics. In 1862 he was elected Member of Parliament for Canterbury, a position he resigned in 1878. From 1868 he sat as an independent. He was also Deputy Lieutenant for Ross-shire, and in 1875 published the book ''The Eastern Question''. He died in Paris on 17 October 1902.
