Henry Maurice (minister)
Henry Maurice (1634 – 30 July 1682) was a Welsh Anglican priest who became an Independent minister. Personal life Maurice was born in 1634 in the parish of Aberdaron, Wales, the son of Griffith Morris. He married Elin, daughter of Jeffrey Glynn, a Royalist squire. He died aged 48. Career Maurice was educated at Jesus College, Oxford. He was ordained and in 1661 served after the Restoration as vicar of Bromfield, Shropshire, and rector of Mellteyrn, Caernarfonshire. After becoming rector of Church Stretton in 1668, he had by June 1671 become a Dissenter, preaching widely in Shropshire and Wales. He has been described as "one of the most virile Puritan propagators of the second generation." His industry and preaching led to the Independent churches in his area becoming numerically strong. Henry Maurice (theologian)
Henry Maurice (c. 1647 – 30 October 1691) was a Welsh clergyman who became Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Oxford University. Life Maurice, the son of Thomas Maurice, curate of the parish of Llangristiolus, Anglesey, was educated at Beaumaris Grammar School. He then matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford in 1664 at the age of 16, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1668. His ability led to Leoline Jenkins, the college principal, taking an interest in him, and Maurice was elected to a fellowship in 1670 (a position he retained until 1685). He obtained further degrees: M.A. (1671), B.D. (1679) and D.D. (1683). After his ordination, he became curate of Cheltenham after 1669, returning to the college in 1671 only to leave in 1673 to accompany Jenkins as his chaplain to the Congress of Cologne, where Jenkins was an English representative in attempts to settle the Third Anglo-Dutch War. Henry Gascoyne Maurice
Henry Gascoyen Maurice (24 May 1874, Marlborough, Wiltshire, Marlborough – 12 May 1950) was President of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea 1920–1938 and President of the Zoological Society of London 1942–1948. He also headed the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Agriculture from 1912 and was Fisheries Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (United Kingdom), Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1920 until his retirement in 1938, after which he served on the White Fish Commission from its inception in 1938 until its suspension on the outbreak of war in September 1939.
