Henry Kemp
Henry Kenneth Kemp B.Ag.Sc. (25 September 1912 – 29 June 1973), was a politician in South Australia. History Henry Kemp was born at Unley Park a son of Herbert Kemp, founder of Kemp's Nurseries at the corner of Unley Road and Cross Road, Kingswood. His three surviving sons were all nurserymen. Kemp was the first to graduate BSc. with honours from the Agricultural Science Faculty at Roseworthy Agricultural College and was appointed Horticultural Research Officer with South Australian Department of Agriculture. following a commonwealth grant for a study into the apple and pear industry. He enlisted with the RAAF in 1941 By 1946 he had resumed his work and was promoted to Senior Research Officer in 1949. Aldgate, South Australia
Aldgate is a South Australian village and a suburb of Adelaide, located south-east of the Adelaide city centre, in the Adelaide Hills. History An inn called the Aldgate Pump was opened by Richard D. Hawkins, a well-known publican, in 1864. Hawkins, who had emigrated from London, England, to the Province of South Australia in 1842, already owned several hotels, including the nearby Crafers Inn in present-day Crafers. The pump which Hawkins had installed outside the hotel (and which gave the hotel its name) became a popular place to water the horses and bullock teams which passed through the area, and by 1870, a small settlement had been established. Hawkins claimed at that time that some 60,000 people a year passed through the hotel's doors. The hotel became quite famous, at one point being described as "one of the best decorated of its kind in the colony" with "magnificent chandeliers". Kingswood is a suburb of the Australian city of Adelaide in the City of Mitcham. Kingswood is bounded to the west by Belair Road, to the north by Cross Road, to the south by Princes Road and to the east by Unley High School and the western boundaries of properties fronting onto Smith Dorrien Street. Kingswood was established in 1945 as a formal proposal by the City of Mitcham to "eliminate superfluous subdivisions names" as requested by the Surveyor General of South Australia. At establishment, it consisted of the sub-divisions of Kingswood Estate, Kingswood Park, Mitchemville and a portion of Old Mitcham.
