Henry Johnston was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. Career Johnston joined Port Vale on amateur terms from Manchester Amateur League football in 1920. Henry Erskine Johnston
Henry Erskine Johnston (1777–1838?) was a Scottish actor given the sobriquet The Edinburgh Roscius. . Early life Born in Edinburgh in May 1777 the son of a former barber on the High Street, his father was allegedly shaving Henry Erskine when he received news of his son's birth. John Kay alternatively states his father Robert Johnston (d.1826) thereafter ran the oyster tavern next to the Theatre Royal at Shakespeare Square in Edinburgh. He was apprenticed to a lawyer but did not enjoy this and joined a linen draper for three years. He made his first appearance on the Edinburgh stage as an amateur in the part of Prince Hamlet, 9 July 1794. In 1797 while reciting "Collins Ode on the Passions" he came to the attention of Stephen Kemble who acted as his mentor; the ''Thespian Dictionary'' claimed that he also played Harlequin. Henry Halcro Johnston
Colonel Henry Halcro Johnston CB CBE DL FRSE FLS (13 September 1856 – 18 October 1939) was a Scottish botanist, physician, rugby union international and Deputy Lieutenant for Orkney. As a member of Edinburgh University RFC he represented Scotland in 1877 and went on to make a significant contribution to botany and horticulture through his meticulous collection and recording of plant species during and after his distinguished military career. Life Henry Halcro Johnston was born at Orphir House, Orkney, Scotland, on 13 September 1856, the fifth son of James Johnston J.P., 11th Laird of Coubister, Orkney - a descendant of the brother of James Johnston (1724–1800). He was educated at Dollar Academy, followed by the Collegiate School of Edinburgh, and finally at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated M.B., C.M. in 1880. Henry Johnston, Lord Johnston
The Hon Henry Augustus Johnston, Lord Johnston (1844–1931) was a Scottish judge and Senator of the College of Justice. Life Henry Johnston was born at 32 Heriot Row in Edinburgh on 5 February 1844 the eldest son of Henry Johnston, a surgeon in the Honourable East India Company. His brothers included Duncan Johnston and the high-ranking advocate and cricketer, Sir William Campbell Johnston FRSE. In 1908 he was created a Senator of the College of Justice and given the title Lord Johnston. At this point he was living at 33 Moray Place on the affluent Moray Estate on the western edge of Edinburgh's New Town. He retired in 1918 and his place in the Senate was taken by Robert Blackburn, Lord Blackburn. He died in Edinburgh on 18 October 1931. Henry Butler-Johnstone
Henry Butler-Johnstone (28 August 1809 – 1 April 1879) was a British Conservative Party politician, born Hon. Henry Butler, a younger son of James Butler, 13th Baron Dunboyne. Helater assumed the surname of Johnstone, due to his marriage with Isabella Margaret Munro, daughter of Sir Alexander Munro and niece and heiress of General Johnstone of Corehead. He was elected at the 1852 general election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Canterbury, but in 1853 the election was declared void on petition, and the writ was suspended until 1854. Johnstone regained the seat at the 1857 general election, was re-elected in 1859 and resigned from the House of Commons on 27 January 1862 by the procedural device of accepting appointment as Steward of the Manor of Northstead. Henry Alexander Munro-Butler-Johnstone (7 December 1837 – 17 October 1902) was a British author and Conservative Party politician. Born as Henry Alexander Butler-Johnstone, he was the son of Henry Butler-Johnstone (himself born Hon. Henry Butler), a younger son of the 13th Baron Dunboyne, by his wife Isabella Margaret Munro, daughter of Sir Alexander Munro. His father took the surname Butler-Johnstone to honour an inheritance from his wife's uncle, and he himself took the additional surname Munro from his mother in 1874. He was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating in 1861 with a first-class Bachelor of Arts degree in classics. In 1862 he was elected Member of Parliament for Canterbury, a position he resigned in 1878. From 1868 he sat as an independent. He was also Deputy Lieutenant for Ross-shire, and in 1875 published the book ''The Eastern Question''. He died in Paris on 17 October 1902.
