Henry James
Henry James ( – ) was an American-British author. He is regarded as a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism, and is considered by many to be among the greatest novelists in the English language. He was the son of Henry James Sr. and the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James. He is best known for his novels dealing with the social and marital interplay between ''émigré ''Americans, English people, and continental Europeans. Examples of such novels include '' The Portrait of a Lady'', ''The Ambassadors'', and ''The Wings of the Dove''. His later works were increasingly experimental. In describing the internal states of mind and social dynamics of his characters, James often wrote in a style in which ambiguous or contradictory motives and impressions were overlaid or juxtaposed in the discussion of a character's psyche. Henry James (Regius Professor)
Henry James (died 12 March 1717) was an English clergyman and academic at the University of Cambridge, who served as President of Queens' College, Cambridge 1675–1717 and Regius Professor of Divinity 1699–1717. Henry James was the son of Henry James, a Somerset vicar and chaplain to the Bishop of Bristol. He was schooled at Eton College, and was admitted to Magdalene College, Cambridge in 1660, but transferred to Queens' College, Cambridge in August 1661, graduating B.A. 1664, M.A. 1667, B.D. 1675, D.D. 1679 ('' per lit. reg.''). He was appointed a Fellow of Queens' College in 1664, Taxor in 1673–4, and was elected President of Queens' College on 29 July 1675 (by royal mandate). He served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge 1683–4 and 1696–9, was appointed Regius Professor of Divinity in 1699. Henry James, 1st Baron James of Hereford, (30 October 1828 – 18 August 1911), known as Sir Henry James between 1873 and 1895, was an Anglo-Welsh lawyer and statesman. Initially a Liberal, he served under William Ewart Gladstone as Solicitor General in 1873 and as Attorney-General between 1873 and 1874 and 1880 and 1885. However, he broke with Gladstone over Irish Home Rule and joined the Liberal Unionists. From 1895 to 1902 he was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in the Unionist ministries of Lord Salisbury and Arthur Balfour. Henry Lewis James (18 March 1864 – 17 January 1949) was Dean of Bangor from 1934 to 1940 and an author of theological works in Welsh. Life James was born on 18 March 1864 and educated at Ystrad Meurig School, Christ College, Brecon and Jesus College, Oxford where he obtained a second-class degree in Literae Humaniores. He was ordained in 1887 and served as a curate in Llandudno, later becoming warden of Bangor Church Hostel and, in 1901, rector of Llangefni. He was rector of Tredington, Worcestershire (1907–1910) before becoming rector of Aberffraw and, between 1926 and 1930, rector of Dolgellau. Having been made an honorary canon of Bangor Cathedral in 1928, he was appointed prebendary of Penmynydd in 1930, Chancellor of the Cathedral in 1933 and Dean in 1934. Henry Charles James (born July 29, 1965) is an American retired professional basketball player out of St. Mary's University, Texas. He played parts of seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as well as in several other leagues. The 6'8" small forward signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 1990–91 season and in 37 games, averaged 8.1 points per game. He played with six other teams throughout his career, and once in 1996–97 as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, hit a then-record tying seven three-pointers in a quarter. He also had a career in the Philippine Basketball Association and spent parts of several seasons in the Continental Basketball Association for the Wichita Falls Texans and Sioux Falls Skyforce.
