Henry Herbert, 17th Earl Of Pembroke
Henry George Charles Alexander Herbert, 17th Earl of Pembroke, 14th Earl of Montgomery (19 May 1939 – 7 October 2003), styled Lord Herbert between 1960 and 1969 and often known simply as Henry Herbert, was a British landowner, member of the House of Lords, film director, and producer. Background and education Herbert was the only son of the 16th Earl of Pembroke and 13th Earl of Montgomery and his wife, Mary (a daughter of the 1st Marquess of Linlithgow) and a godson of Prince George, Duke of Kent. Through the 11th Earl of Pembroke, he descended from Countess Catherine Vorontsov. John Roland Abbey
Major John Roland Abbey (23 November 1894 – 24 December 1969) was an English book collector and high sheriff. Early life He was the eldest of three sons of William Henry Abbey, a brewer, and was named John Rowland before dropping the 'w'. He attended Windlesham House School, Brighton from 1907 to 1909 but was subsequently educated in nearby Rottingdean by a private tutor, Mr Möens, after an accident caused permanent damage to one of his elbows. Military career In November 1914, at the start of World War I, he was commissioned as a regimental officer in the Rifle Brigade, serving for two years on the Western Front in the 13th and 8th Battalions. He experienced a lucky escape as part of the 8th Battalion; while he was serving in reserve, the battalion took part in the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, losing all officers but one. William Murray Threipland
Colonel William Murray Threipland, (1866 – 24 June 1942) was a British Army officer. He was appointed the founding colonel commanding of the Welsh Guards in February 1915, and was the regiment's Colonel from March 1937. He was born William Scott Kerr, but adopted the surname of Murray Threipland on 30 April 1882, following his inheritance of the estates of his cousin, Sir Patrick Murray Threipland, 5th Baronet. These included Fingask Castle in Perthshire, and Dale House in Caithness. He was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards as a second lieutenant on 28 May 1887, promoted to lieutenant on 5 May 1892, and took part in the Sudan Campaign in 1898, following which he was promoted to captain on 23 October 1898. The Pelly Baronetcy, of Upton in the County of Essex, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 12 August 1840 for John Pelly, Governor of the Bank of England and of the Hudson's Bay Company. The title descended in the direct line until the early death of his grandson, the third Baronet, in 1877. The late Baronet was succeeded by his half-brother, the fourth Baronet.
