Henry A. Wise (New York State Senator)
Henry Alexander Wise (August 21, 1906 – December 13, 1982) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life He was born on August 21, 1906, in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York, the son of Jennings Cropper Wise (1881–1968) and Elizabeth Lydecker (Anderson) Wise (1883–1963). He graduated from Virginia Military Institute with the Class of 1927, and in 1931 from the University of Virginia. In April 1935, he married Deborah Halsey Turnbull (1909–1943). In 1941, he married Mary Alice Buck (1918–1981), and they had three children. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He practiced law in Watertown. Political career Wise was a member of the New York State Senate from 1948 to 1964, sitting in the 166th, 167th, 168th, 169th, 170th, 171st, 172nd, 173rd and 174th New York State Legislatures. Hugh Douglas Barclay
Hugh Douglas Barclay (July 5, 1932 – March 14, 2021) was an American lawyer, an 11-term New York State Senator, and a United States Ambassador to El Salvador. Personal life Barclay was born on July 5, 1932, in New York City and moved to Pulaski, Oswego County, New York. He attended Pulaski Academy and Central Schools and later attended St. Paul's School. He graduated BA from Yale University in 1955, and went on to serve in the United States Army for two years. He earned a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1961. He married Sara J. "Dee Dee" Seiter, and they have five children, among them Assemblyman Will Barclay (born 1969). Barclay died on March 14, 2021, at the age of 88. John Sergeant Wise (December 27, 1846 – May 12, 1913) was an American author, lawyer, and politician in Virginia. He was the son of Henry Alexander Wise, a Governor of Virginia, and Sarah Sergeant. Early life John was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1846, while his father was U.S. Minister to the Empire of Brazil. He lived as a youth with his father and others at Rolleston, their plantation on the Elizabeth River (Virginia), Elizabeth River outside Norfolk, Virginia. His father served as a US Congressman before being elected as Governor of Virginia in 1856. After being privately tutored as a youth, Wise attended Virginia Military Institute. Still a student when the American Civil War began, Wise served with the VMI Corps of Cadets at the Battle of New Market. Ordered to guard the Cadets' baggage train, he defied those orders to stay there, and took part in the Cadets' famous charge. Accomack County is a United States county located in the eastern edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Together, Accomack and Northampton counties make up the Eastern Shore of Virginia, which in turn is part of the Delmarva Peninsula, bordered by the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
