Hemker Park And Zoo
The Hemker Park & Zoo is a family owned zoo founded in 1977 in Freeport, Minnesota, United States. The zoo was founded by Mark and Joan Hemker. History The Hemker Park and Zoo was started in 1977 by Mark and Joan Hemker in Freeport, Minnesota, when the couple acquired their first collection of waterfowl. It started out as the Hemker Game Farm. In 1980, the farm acquired its first pair of white-tail deer and a black bear. The zoo expanded in 1985 when it acquired a pronghorn antelope and a pair of reindeer. In 1992, the Hemker Game Farm became the Hemker Wildlife Park and later that same year added six black-footed penguins to their collection. Finally in 1994, the Hemker Wildlife Park opened to the public for the first time. The turn of the century brought new exhibits to the Hemker Wildlife Park such as the African Safari. Hemker, Missouri
Hemker (Hemkerville) was an unincorporated community in Franklin County, in the U.S. state of Missouri, but was dissolved in 1970 after the last residents moved out. The community is now considered part of Robertsville, MO. History A post office was established at Hemker in 1885, and remained in operation until 1903. Coen Hemker
Hendrik Coenraad "Coen" Hemker (born 21 July 1934) is a Dutch biochemist and academic administrator. He was one of the founders of Maastricht University and was its its ''rector magnificus'' from 1982 to 1984. He was a professor of biochemistry from 1975 until 1999. In his research he has mainly studied thrombosis and hemostasis. Early life and career Hemker was born on 21 July 1934 in Amsterdam. With his mother being a heart patient and his father spending a lot of time on his hobbies, Hemker frequently looked after his four younger brothers. He subsequently wanted to study pediatrics but was advised by Dutch pediatrician to study biochemistry for a year. Hemker obtained his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam in 1959. Academically he performed well and he was asked to continue his studies so he could obtain a PhD. By this time he thoroughly liked performing research and accepted the offer. Kevin Hemker
Kevin J. Hemker is the Alonzo G. Decker Chair and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and holds joint appointments in the Departments of Materials Science & Engineering and Earth & Planetary Sciences.  Education He earned a BS in metallurgy from the University of Cincinnati, MS and PhD degrees in materials science and engineering from Stanford University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in physics at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne. His doctoral advisor at Stanford was Prof. William Nix. Career He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1993, was an NSF National Young Investigator (1994), an invited Professor at the EPFL (1995) and the University of Paris XIII (2001), and received the ASM Materials Science Research Silver Medal in 2001.
