Helen Grant (born 14 February 1979 in Halifax, West Yorkshire) is an English women's field hockey forward, who has competed at both national and international level, representing both England and Great Britain during her career. Grant made her debut for England against Ireland in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 16 June 2001 and went on to make 105 appearances, scoring a total of 30 goals before her final game against Germany at the World Cup in Madrid, Spain on 8 October 2006. Her first appearance for the British team was against South Africa in Potchefstroom on 17 May 2003, where she scored both goals in a match which was a 2–2 draw for the United Kingdom. Her last appearance for the UK was also against South Africa at Stellenbosch on 10 January 2007, although this time the team lost 3–1. Helen Grant (politician)
Helen Grant (née Okuboye, 28 September 1961) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidstone and The Weald since 2010. A member of the Conservative Party, she succeeded Ann Widdecombe, who was first elected in 1987. Grant was the first black woman of mixed heritage to be elected as a Conservative MP and selected as a candidate to stand for a Conservative-held parliamentary seat. She first served in government as jointly Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Women and Equalities (2012–2015) and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice (2012–2013). She also became Minister for Sport and Tourism in 2013, a post she held until after the 2015 general election. Helen Grant (born 1964 in Westminster, London) is an English author of novels for young adults, now based in Crieff, Scotland. She is a 2011 recipient of the Alex Awards. Biography She was educated at Dr Challoner's High School and went on to read classics at St Hugh's College, Oxford. Her first novel, ''The Vanishing of Katharina Linden'', was published by Penguin Books in April 2009. It was shortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize and the CILIP Carnegie Medal. Laura Wilson, writing for '' The Guardian'', called it "an eerily subtle literary page-turner" that doesn't contain anything "remotely winsome or mawkish". ''Holby City'' is a British medical drama television series that was broadcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom between 12 January 1999 and 29 March 2022. The series was created by Tony McHale and Mal Young as a Spin-off (media), spin-off from the BBC medical drama ''Casualty (TV series), Casualty'', which is set in the emergency department of the fictional Holby City Hospital, based in the equally fictitious town of Holby. The show focuses on the fictional lives, both professional and personal, of the medical and ancillary staff on the hospital's surgical wards.
