Helastia Farinata
''Helastia farinata'' is a moth of the family Geometridae. It was first described by William Warren in 1896. This species is endemic to New Zealand and is found in the North Island. ''H. farinata'' inhabits shady and damp forest ravines. Taxonomy It was first described by William Warren in 1896 using specimens collected by George Hudson in Wellington and named ''Xanthorhoe farinata''. In 1912 Louis Beethoven Prout placed this species in the genus ''Larentia'' and affirmed this placement again in 1939. Edward Meyrick returned this species to the genus ''Xanthorhoe'' in 1917. George Hudson followed this placement when he discussed and illustrated this species in his 1928 publication ''The butterflies and moths of New Zealand''. In 1971 J. S. Dugdale placed this species in the genus ''Helastia'' and this placement was confirmed by Robin C. Craw when he revised the genus in 1987. William Warren (entomologist)
William Warren (20 January 1839, in Cambridge – 18 October 1914, in Hemel Hempstead) was an English entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. William Warren was first educated at Oakham School, and subsequently graduated from the University of Cambridge, taking first-class classical honours in 1861. He then taught at Sedbergh School, Doncaster Grammar School (1866-1876) and Stubbington House School. He collected extensively in the British Isles, notably at Wicken Fen, with a special interest in Micro-lepidoptera. After giving up teaching in 1882, he lived in Cambridge and devoted himself fully to entomology, publishing around 40 papers on British moths between 1878 and 1889. Notably, in 1887 he was the first to recognise Grapholita pallifrontana (Lienig & Zeller) (Lep: Tortricidae) as a British species of micro-moth, a species which now has the English name the Liquorice Piercer and is of conservation concern. Edward Meyrick
Edward Meyrick (25 November 1854, in Ramsbury – 31 March 1938, at Thornhanger, Marlborough) was an English schoolmaster and amateur entomologist. He was an expert on microlepidoptera and some consider him one of the founders of modern microlepidoptera systematics. Life and work Edward Meyrick came from a Welsh clerical family and was born in Ramsbury on the Kennet to a namesake father. He was educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He actively pursued his hobby during his schooling, and one colleague stated in 1872 that Meyrick "has not left a lamp, a paling, or a tree unexamined in which a moth could possibly, at any stage of its existence, lie hid." Louis Beethoven Prout (1864–1943) was an English entomologist and musicologist. Prout specialised in the insect order of Lepidoptera, especially the Geometridae, or geometer moths, on which he was a foremost authority. His notebooks and publications formed the basis of the Geometridae card indexes in the Natural History Museum, the then British Museum (Natural History).
