Heikant, Alphen-Chaam
Heikant is a hamlet in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Alphen-Chaam,''VUGA's Alfabetische Plaatsnamengids van Nederland'' (13th edition), VUGA, 1997. about 2 km northeast of Chaam.''ANWB Topografische Atlas Nederland'', Topografische Dienst and ANWB, 2005. Heikant is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Chaam. It was first mentioned in 1685 as aen den Heycant, and means "on the edge of the heath". Heikant was home to 252 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of about 80 house. The Roman Catholic Church of the parish of Chaam used to be in this hamlet, but it was moved to the village of Chaam in 1842. Brasschaat
Brasschaat () is a municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Brasschaat proper. In November 2006, Brasschaat won the LivCom-Award 2006 for the most livable municipality in the world. History Origins The history of Brasschaat started with Celtic settlements. The Gallic tribe of the Belgae displaced them and were in turn conquered by the Romans, who built a major road in the area. After the Germanic invasions in the 3rd and 4th century, the whole region was Christianized. In the Middle Ages the little river Laar, flowing through the woods of the municipality, served as a natural bordermark between the Bishopric of Liège and the Bishopric of Cambrai. Heikant, Zeeland
Heikant is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Hulst, and lies about 33 km southwest of Bergen op Zoom. There are many settlements called Heikant (" heath edge") in the Netherlands; the one near Hulst is the largest and the only one with village status. History The village was first mentioned in 1867 as Heikant, and means "edge of the heath". Heikant was home to 422 people in 1840. The Catholic Holy Theresia of the Child Jesus church was built in 1930 by the unemployed as a condition of the municipality for a subsidy. The village used to be part of the municipality of Sint Jansteen. In 1970, it became part of the municipality of Hulst. Heikant is a former hamlet in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It was located about 1 km west of Vught. The hamlet is mentioned by the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa.
