Heaven Knows (Squeeze Song)
"Heaven Knows" is a song by Squeeze, released as the third single from their eleventh album, ''Ridiculous''. The single version differs significantly from the original album mix, as most of Chris Difford's vocals have been erased and replaced by new vocals from Glenn Tilbrook. The single reached number 27 in the UK Singles Chart. Three versions of the single were released, each with a different set of live B-sides. The live tracks are the same as those found on the ''Live at the Royal Albert Hall'' CD released in 1997. A third mix of "Heaven Knows" was featured prominently in the 1995 film ''Hackers'' and was finally made available in 2020 on the 25th Anniversary Edition release of the CD soundtrack. Squeeze (band)
Squeeze are an English rock band that came to prominence in the United Kingdom during the new wave period of the late 1970s, and continued recording in the 1980s, 1990s and 2010s. In the UK, their singles " Cool for Cats", "Up the Junction", and " Labelled with Love" were top-ten chart hits; "Pulling Mussels" only made it to 44 in the UK charts. Though not as commercially successful in the United States, Squeeze had American hits with " Tempted", " Black Coffee in Bed", and "Hourglass", and were considered a part of the Second British Invasion. The vast majority of their material is composed of lyrics by Chris Difford and music by Glenn Tilbrook, who are guitarists and vocalists in the band. The duo were hailed as "the heirs to Lennon and McCartney's throne" during the band's initial popularity in the late 1970s. The group formed in Deptford, London, in 1974, and first broke up in 1982. "Annie Get Your Gun" is a single released by Squeeze in 1982. It was not featured on any studio album, but has been included on a number of compilations, including ''Singles – 45's and Under''. "Annie Get Your Gun" (which borrows its title from a popular musical) was the last single released by the band before they broke up, though they reunited in 1985. Background After the failure of the band's previous album, ''Sweets from a Stranger'', Squeeze's record company, A&M, asked them to make a new single. Glenn Tilbrook already had put together two songs, " Action Speaks Faster" and "Annie Get Your Gun". He then asked the rest of the band to pick the one to be recorded, resulting in "Annie Get Your Gun" being unanimously chosen.
