"Living on the Ceiling" is a song by English synth-pop band Blancmange. It was released as the band's third single in 1982, taken from their debut studio album ''Happy Families''. It became the band's first (and biggest) UK Top 40 hit, peaking at No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart and being certified Silver by the BPI for sales in excess of 200,000 copies. The single also reached No. 5 on the Australian Singles Chart. Blancmange performed the song on ''Top of the Pops'', but for broadcast on the show as well as on BBC Radio, the track was edited to replace the lyric "Up the bloody tree" with "Up the cuckoo tree". However, in a subsequent episode of ''Top of the Pops'' where the song was used as the 'play-out track' without the band in the studio, the original "bloody" lyric was left in and was clearly audible. Style Reporting a 2011 interview with lead singer Neil Arthur, Sarah Nixey suggested that ".. it was the Indian influences of Pandit Dinesh on tablas and Deepak Khazauchi on si ... The Day Before You Came
"The Day Before You Came" is a song recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA, released in October 1982 as the lead single from the compilation album '' The Singles: The First Ten Years''. History Development Following the November 1981 release of ABBA's eighth album '' The Visitors'', the four ABBA members took some time away from the group to focus on individual priorities. Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson both became fathers again in January 1982, and wanted to spend some time with their wives and new born children; at the same time, they were beginning to develop ideas for their first musical, ''Chess'', alongside Tim Rice. Meanwhile, Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad recorded her first solo album in seven years, working with Phil Collins to produce ''Something's Going On'', and Agnetha Fältskog took a break from music to spend time with her children. Björn and Benny returned to work on a planned follow up album to ''The Visitors'' in April 1982, working together in songwriting sessi ... Waves (Blancmange Song)
"Waves" is a song by English synth-pop duo Blancmange, released on 21 January 1983 as the fourth and final single from their debut studio album ''Happy Families'' (1982). Written by Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe, and produced by Mike Howlett, "Waves" reached No. 19 in the UK and remained in the charts for nine weeks. In a 2016 interview with ''M Magazine'', Arthur recalled of writing the song: "I had a summer job where I had to sit in this caravan handing out concrete slabs to builders. Most of the day I did nothing. It was a glorious summer and I just sat and wrote "I've Seen the Word", "I Can't Explain", "Waves". They were so minimal but Stephen laid these lovely melodies over the top." Critical reception Upon release, ''Smash Hits'' wrote: "After the brilliant " Living on the Ceiling", this is rotten. Neil Arthur puts on his Martin Fry tuxedo, dives head-first into the sea of strings... and drowns." In a retrospective review of ''Happy Families'' (1982), John Bergstrom of '' ...
