Thomas B. Ricketts (15 January 1853 – 19 January 1939) was an English-born American stage and film actor and director who was a pioneer in the film industry. He portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge in the first American film adaptation of ''A Christmas Carol'' (1908), and directed one of the first motion pictures ever made in Hollywood. Charlotte Burton
Charlotte E. Burton (May 30, 1881 – March 28, 1942) was an American silent film actress. Career Born in San Francisco, Burton was signed by the American Film Manufacturing Company in 1912 where she worked for several years. She joined Essanay Studios which she sued in 1919 for $25,000 for breach of contract. She originally signed with the company believing she would be acting in mostly drama film but she was cast in mostly comedy films. Her salary had been $200 a week with an option for her services at the rate of $300 a week for a second year. Charlotte claimed that she was signed by Essanay business manager, Vernon R. Day, to a contract extending from November 1916 until November 1918. She was discharged without reason. When Burton came to the Chicago, studio she refused a role offered her in a Black Cat comedy, presented to her by Essanay president George K. Spoor. She declined because she was not a comedian. William Reeves Eason (October 2, 1886 – June 9, 1956), known as B. Reeves Eason, was an American film director, actor and screenwriter. His directorial output was limited mainly to low-budget westerns and action pictures, but it was as a second-unit director and action specialist that he was best known. He was famous for staging spectacular battle scenes in war films and action scenes in large-budget westerns, but he acquired the nickname "Breezy" for his "breezy" attitude towards safety while staging his sequences—during the famous cavalry charge at the end of '' Charge of the Light Brigade'' (1936), so many horses were killed or injured so severely that they had to be euthanized that both the public and Hollywood itself were outraged, resulting in the selection of the American Humane Society by the beleaguered studios to provide representatives on the sets of all films using animals to ensure their safety. Louise Lester (August 8, 1867 – November 18, 1952) was an American silent film actress. She was the first female star of Western films. Biography Lester was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 8, 1867. In 1884, Lester headed the Louise Lester Opera Company. Lester made her debut in movies as a member of the Flying A Company in Santa Barbara, California after a career on stage. She starred in over 150 films before her retirement in 1935. Lester is most famous for starring as Calamity Anne in a series of films based around the character. She also starred with William Garwood in films such as '' The Oath of Pierre''. The actress' married name was Louise Lester Beal. She was the widow of Frank Beal, a film director. She was also married to actor Jack Richardson. Marie Layet (who often wrote under the pen name Marie Stanley) was an American screenwriter and novelist known for her work during Hollywood's silent era. Biography Marie was born in Mobile, Alabama, to George Layet and his wife Josephine Garner. Her parents were reportedly respected and well-known, but she was orphaned at a young age, and was raised primarily by her grandmother. After her grandmother died, she studied art in New Jersey and Ohio. At the age of 24, she returned to Mobile and opened her own art studio, and she wrote silent films in order to pay her bills after answering an advertisement. Her earliest known effort was on 1913's ''The Clown's Daughter''. She'd go on to write at least a half-dozen more films before marrying prominent lumberman Stanley Sheip in 1917. After her marriage, she turned her attention to the local theater scene, co-founding the Mobile Little Theatre and working on stage plays.
