Hiss Golden Messenger is an American folk music band, originating from Durham, North Carolina, led by MC Taylor (born September 9, 1975). History The band was formed by Mike (MC) Taylor and Scott Hirsch in 2007. The band's early recordings were released through Taylor's own recording label, "Heaven & Earth Magic Recording Company." The band's debut album, '' Country Hai East Cotton'', was released in 2009 via Taylor's label in a limited edition of 500. This was followed by their international debut album, ''Bad Debt'', in 2010, released via Black Maps. The band's third album, ''Poor Moon'', was released in 2012 via North Carolina-based "Paradise of Bachelors", and received positive reviews. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. Daughter of Swords is the folk music side-project of the American musician Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, best known as a member of the band Mountain Man. Sauser-Monnig released her solo album as Daughter of Swords, entitled ''Dawnbreaker'', in 2019. Background Sauser-Monnig is originally from Minnesota. After nearly 10 years away from Mountain Man, Sauser-Monnig began to record solo material; before ''Dawnbreaker'' was completed, however, Mountain Man regrouped to record ''Magic Ship'' (2018). Having originally planned to use only vocals and guitar, on returning to ''Dawnbreaker'' Sauser-Monnig worked with Nick Sanborn of the electropo duo Sylvan Esso to incorporate other instrumentation. Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School through 10th grade, before moving with his family to Moorestown, New Jersey. He completed high school at Moorestown Friends School, graduating in 2000. Moose studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He began a master's program in American studies at Columbia University, but left to join Antony and the Johnsons on tour in 2005. Josh Kaufman (musician)
Josh Kaufman (born May 26, 1978) is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, composer, arranger and engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. He is a member of the collaborative ensembles Muzz and Bonny Light Horseman. New York Kaufman began playing in high school garage bands in New York. Largely self-taught, he decided to take music theory lessons in his senior year at high school in preparation for studying music at Third Level. After graduating, Kaufman enrolled in the State University of New York (SUNY) in New Paltz, NY. There, he worked at The Main Street Bistro as well as Jack's Rhythms record store, and frequently made visits down to New York City. Phil Cook (musician)
Phil Cook is an American guitarist, banjoist, pianist, and singer. He is a member of the freak-folk band Megafaun. Before he became a member of Megafaun, Cook was part of DeYarmond Edison which is a band led by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. He also plays in the band Gayngs as well as the Shouting Matches which is fronted by Vernon. Additionally he is affiliated with MC Taylor and his band Hiss Golden Messenger. Outside of his musical career, Cook worked at the Center for Inquiry Based Learning at Duke University where he "assembled hands-on science kits for elementary schools." He draws on diverse influences including Bill Evans, Bruce Hornsby, Keith Jarrett, Jerry Douglas, Ry Cooder, Greg Leisz, John Kamman, and Bill Frisell.
