Healthcare In Nottinghamshire
Healthcare in Nottinghamshire was, until July 2022, the responsibility of six clinical commissioning groups, covering Nottingham City, Nottingham North & East, Mansfield and Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, Rushcliffe, and Nottingham West. They planned to merge in April 2020. History From 1947 to 1974 NHS services in Nottinghamshire were managed by the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board. In 1974 the boards were abolished and replaced by regional health authorities. Northamptonshire came under the Trent RHA. From 1974 there was one area health authority covering the county. From 1982 there were three district health authorities, Bassetlaw, Nottingham and Central Nottinghamshire. In 1992 Bassetlaw and Central Nottinghamshire were merged into North Nottinghamshire. Clinical Commissioning Group
Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022. Establishment The announcement that GPs would take over this commissioning role was made in the 2010 white paper "Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS". This was part of the government's stated desire to create a clinically-driven commissioning system that was more sensitive to the needs of patients. The 2010 white paper became law under the Health and Social Care Act 2012 in March 2012. Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2001 and gained Foundation Trust status in 2007. It runs three hospitals in Nottinghamshire - King's Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital. It also operates services from Ashfield Health Village. Services From September 2017 all referrals to the trust are made electronically using the NHS e-Referral Service. This has reduced the rate of patients missing appointments from 10% to 5%. Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2004. It runs services at Bassetlaw District General Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and Retford Hospital, in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, England. Out-of-hours services are the arrangements to provide access to healthcare at times when General Practitioner surgeries are closed; in the United Kingdom this is normally between 6.30pm and 8am, at weekends, at Bank Holidays and sometimes if the practice is closed for educational sessions. Most Out-of-hours services in Scotland and Wales are provided directly by Health Boards. In Northern Ireland they are provided by the Health and Social Care Trusts. In England they are commissioned by Clinical Commissioning Groups, usually working together, as the contracts often cover large areas. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. It was established on 1 April 2006 following the merger of Nottingham City Hospital and the Queen's Medical Centre NHS Trusts.
