Headspace (firearms)
In firearms, headspace is the distance measured from a closed chamber's breech face to the chamber feature that limits the insertion depth of a cartridge placed in it. Used as a verb by firearms designers, ''headspacing'' refers to the act of stopping deeper cartridge insertion. The exact part of the cartridge that seats against the limiting chamber feature differs among cartridge and gun designs. Headspace (Pulse Ultra Album)
''Headspace'' is the first and only album from the Canadian group Pulse Ultra. The album was released on July 16, 2002, via Atlantic Records. A music video was made for the single "Build your Cages". Reception ''CMJ New Music Report'' wrote in 2002, "Founded in Montreal in 1997, Pulse Ultra is an aggressive, yet melodic rock band that interestingly toys with prog à la Tool, but never loses focus on keeping its songs short and to the point. "Big Brother", the album's first official single, will please anyone who got off on the moody industrial tinges of A Perfect Circle's "Thinking of You", while "Glass Door" is a full-throttle rocker in the style of Ultraspank."''CMJ New Music Report'', 24 Jun 2002 Brian O'Neill of Allmusic gave the album a mixed review, stating, "The Montreal-based outfit borrows heavily from the more avant-garde styles of Tool ("Put It Off"), and other moments are more firmly rap-metal in nature ("Void" could be Incubus). While there's nothing wrong with dr ...

Headspace Technology
Headspace technology is a technique developed in the 1980s to elucidate the odor compounds present in the air surrounding various objects. Usually the objects of interest are odoriferous objects such as plants, flowers and foods. Similar techniques are also used to analyze the interesting scents of locations and environments such as tea shops and saw mills. After the data is analyzed, the scents can then be recreated by a perfumer. One of the early pioneers of this technology includes Roman Kaiser who used it to measure and characterize the scents of tropical rainforest. Headspace techniques have since been used extensively to sample in vivo floral headspace of a large variety of numerous taxa and their aromatic compounds such as fatty acid derivatives (aldehydes, alcohols and ketones), benzenoids and isoprenoids. Braja D. Mookherjee was among the earliest pioneers of this technique. It was his mission, through the use of headspace technology, to characterize the perceived chan ...

Ullage
Ullage or headspace is the unfilled space in a container, particularly with a liquid. Etymology The word ''ullage'' comes from the Latin word ''oculus'', used by the Romans to refer to a barrel cork hole. This word was, in turn, taken in medieval French as ''oeil'', from which a verb ''ouiller'' was created, meaning to fill a barrel to full capacity. Around 1300, the word ''ouillage'' was created by the Normans to refer to the amount of liquid needed to fill a barrel to capacity. Alcoholic beverages In winemaking, ''ullage'' came to refer to any amount by which a barrel is unfilled, perhaps because some of the contents have been used. It is also applied to the unfilled air space at the top of a bottle of wine, which in this case is essential to allow for expansion of the contents as the temperature changes. By further extension, in brewing and beer retail, ''ullage'' is the residue of beer left in a barrel that has been emptied. When calculating tax returns and the like, license ...
