''He's a Woman, She's a Man'' (金枝玉葉) is a 1994 Hong Kong romantic comedy film co-written and directed by Peter Chan and starring Leslie Cheung, Anita Yuen, Carina Lau, Eric Tsang and Jordan Chan. Its many awards garnered include Best Actress at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards for Yuen and Best Original Song for "Chase" by Cheung. The film was followed by a sequel, '' Who's the Woman, Who's the Man?'', released in 1996. The theme song "Chase" (追) appeared on Cheung's 1995 album '' Most Beloved''. Plot Wing (Anita Yuen) is a sassy girl who deeply idolizes Rose (Carina Lau), a pop singer, and Rose's boyfriend, top record producer and songwriter Sam (Leslie Cheung). Peter Chan
Peter Ho-sun Chan (born 28 November 1962) is a film director and producer. Early life Chan was born in British Hong Kong to parents China. He and his family moved to Thailand when he was 12, where he grew up amongst the international Chinese community in Bangkok. He speaks Thai as fluently as a Thai person. He later studied in the United States where he attended film school at UCLA, with a minor in accountancy. He returned to Hong Kong in 1983 for a summer internship in the film industry. Chan never returned to UCLA to complete his studies. Career He served as second assistant director, translator, and producer on John Woo's ''Heroes Shed No Tears'' (1986), which was set in Thailand. Cross-dressing in film has followed a long history of female impersonation on English stage, and made its appearance in the early days of the silent films. Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel brought the tradition from the English music halls when they came to America with Fred Karno's comedy troupe in 1910. Both Chaplin and Laurel occasionally dressed as women in their films. Even the beefy American actor Wallace Beery appeared in a series of silent films as a Swedish woman. The Three Stooges, especially Curly ( Jerry Howard), sometimes appeared in drag in their short films. The tradition has continued for many years, usually played for laughs. Only in recent decades have there been dramatic films which included cross-dressing, possibly because of strict censorship of American films until the mid-1960s. He received a bachelor of arts in translation from the University of Hong Kong in 1984. Songwriting career He has been a Cantopop lyricist since 1985, using the pen name Lam Chik. Richard Lee Peng Boon (born 24 August 1956) is a Singaporean singer-songwriter, playwright and film director.
