Haydon is a village and civil parish north of Dorchester, in the Dorset district, in the county of Dorset, England. In 2001 the parish had a population of 44. The parish touches Castleton, Caundle Marsh, Folke, Goathill, North Wootton and Purse Caundle. Features There are three listed buildings in Haydon. Among them is the former St Catherine's Church, which is now in residential use. Benjamin Haydon
Benjamin Robert Haydon (; 26 January 178622 June 1846) was a British painter who specialised in grand historical pictures, although he also painted a few contemporary subjects and portraits. His commercial success was damaged by his often tactless dealings with patrons, and by the enormous scale on which he preferred to work. He was troubled by financial problems throughout his life, which led to several periods of imprisonment for debt. He died by suicide in 1846. He gave lectures on art, and kept extensive diaries that were published after his death. Life Early years Haydon was born in Plymouth, the only son of another Benjamin Robert Haydon, a prosperous printer, stationer and publisher, and his wife Mary, the daughter of the Rev. AFC Wimbledon
AFC Wimbledon is an English professional football club, based in Merton, London, that plays in the EFL League Two, after being relegated from the EFL League One following the 2021–22 season. The club's home stadium is Plough Lane. The club was founded in 2002 by former supporters of Wimbledon F.C. after the Football Association allowed that club to relocate to Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, about north of Wimbledon. Most of the Wimbledon F.C. supporters were very strongly opposed to moving the club so far away from Wimbledon, feeling that a club transplanted to a distant location would no longer represent Wimbledon or the club's historic legacy and tradition. The Wombles
''The Wombles'' are fictional pointy-nosed, furry creatures created by Elisabeth Beresford and originally appearing in a series of children's novels from 1968. They live in burrows, where they aim to help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in creative ways. Although Wombles supposedly live in every country in the world, Beresford's stories are primarily concerned with the lives of the inhabitants of the burrow on Wimbledon Common in London, England. The characters gained a higher national profile in the UK in the mid-1970s as a result of the popularity of a BBC-commissioned children's television show which used stop-motion animation. Snowtown Murders
The Snowtown murders (also known as the bodies in barrels murders) were a series of murders committed by John Justin Bunting, Robert Joe Wagner and James Spyridon Vlassakis between August 1992 and May 1999, in and around Adelaide, South Australia. A fourth person, Mark Haydon, was convicted for helping to dispose of the bodies. The trial was one of the longest and most publicised in Australian legal history. Most of the bodies were found in barrels in an abandoned bank vault in Snowtown, South Australia, hence the names given in the press for the murders. Only one of the victims was killed in Snowtown itself, which is approximately north of Adelaide, and neither the twelve victims nor the three perpetrators were from the town. Glen Haydon
Glen Haydon was an American musicologist instrumental in the founding of the Department of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He remained chair of the department until his death in 1966. Haydon wrote ''Introduction to Musicology'', one of the first books on the subject written in English. He also played a key role in the creation of the Music Library at the University. Haydon travelled extensively through Europe during the summers prior to World War II collecting the books and periodicals that would become the nexus of the library's collection. Jodie Haydon (born 1978) is an Australian financial services professional and women's advocate. She is the partner of Anthony Albanese, the 31st and current Prime Minister of Australia since 23 May 2022. Early life and career Haydon was born in 1978 at Bankstown, Sydney, and grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales, the daughter of two teachers. James Gilbert Haydon (4 May 1901 – 21 September 1969) was a professional footballer who played as a full back in the Football League for Bristol Rovers for ten years from 1921 until 1931. Although he played youth and non-League football for other teams, Bristol Rovers were his only League side.
