Hawaii–Hilo Vulcans Women's Volleyball
The Hawaii–Hilo Vulcans women's volleyball team is the intercollegiate women's volleyball team of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. One of the original "traditionals" in the world of small schools volleyball, the Vulcans started out as National Runners Up right out of the gates in 1978. The 1978 AIAW Div.II team was led by Cheryl Ching, Kawehi Ka'a'a, Vetoann Baker and Lyndell Lindsey. Coach Sharon Peterson (an inaugural 1988 NAIA Hall of Fame honoree) was in fact coach back then, but she had been preceded by Coach Mike Wilton for partial foundations in some of 1977. In June 2018, Manu-Olevao's became the able majority, two, assistants. In the first week of December, in 1979 (Orlando, FL), UHH won Hawai'i its first ever National Championship of volleyball. Later that evening, Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball would also win a national title for large national colleges (at Central Standard Time). The University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) is a public university in Hilo, Hawaii. It is one of ten general campuses of the University of Hawaii system. It was founded as Hilo Center at Lyman Hall of the Hilo Boys School in 1945 and was a branch campus of the University of Hawai’i (at Manoa). AIAW
The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics in the United States and to administer national championships (see AIAW Champions). It evolved out of the Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (founded in 1967). The association was one of the biggest advancements for women's athletics on the collegiate level. Throughout the 1970s, the AIAW grew rapidly in membership and influence, in parallel with the national growth of women's sports following the enactment of Title IX. The AIAW functioned in the equivalent role for college women's programs that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) had been doing for men's programs. Mike Wilton
Mike Wilton is an American volleyball coach. Career Wilton served in the United States Marine Corps after high school. He played basketball at Santa Barbara City College, surfed and worked in construction. In 1969 he played volleyball with Church College of Hawaii (now Brigham Young University Hawaii. In 1970 he became an assistant at Brigham Young University (BYU), Provo, Utah. In 1973 he became Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo's men volleyball coach. In 1974 Wilton also served as an assistant UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball, and 1976 BYU's men's volleyball coach. From 1978 to 1989 he was Cal Poly's women's volleyball head coach. In 1993 he took over as Warrior Volleyball as head coach. On April 11, 2009 Wilton announced that he was resigning from his Hawaii head coaching job. Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Volleyball
The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team is the NCAA Division I women's volleyball team for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. They are a member of the Big West Conference and are led by head coach, Robyn Ah Mow-Santos. The Rainbow Wahine volleyball program remains a large source of financial income for the University of Hawaii athletic department, notwithstanding even what FB and MBB generates. Grandfathered in, and straddling the line between the two governing bodies of the AIAW and NCAA, Joyce Kapuaala-Kaapuni started with Hawaii in 1974 (alongside USAV's 1970 World's participant Beth McLachlin). Honda-Broderick Cup
The Honda-Broderick Cup is a sports award for college-level female athletes. The awards are voted on by a national panel of more than 1000 collegiate athletic directors. It was first presented by Tom Broderick, an American owner of a women's sports apparel company, in 1977, with the first award going to Lusia Harris, who played basketball at Delta State University. The Honda Corporation has presented the award since 1987. To be nominated, an athlete must have won the Honda Sports Award for her sport. Winners are chosen in each of the 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports; three additional athletes are recognized as the Inspiration Award winner and Division II and III Athletes of the Year. All of these women are selected not only for their superior athletic skills, but also for their leadership abilities, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Washington Huskies Women's Volleyball
The Washington Huskies volleyball team is the intercollegiate women's volleyball team of the University of Washington in Seattle. They compete in the Pac-12 Conference and play their home games at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion, which was built in 1927 and renovated in 2000. Prior to 1988, the Washington volleyball program had seen Huskies' victories, but it has now emerged as a perennial power.
