Haukar Women's Basketball
The Haukar women's basketball team, commonly known as Haukar, is the women's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar multi-sport club, based in the town of Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Recent history On 23 September 2021, Haukar became the first Icelandic women's basketball team to win in a continental competition when it defeated Clube União Sportiva, 81–76, in the first leg of the 2021–22 EuroCup Women qualifiers. In the game, Jana Falsdóttir became the youngest Icelandic female player to play and score in a continental competition, breaking the records of Unnur Tara Jónsdóttir and Ragna Margrét Brynjarsdóttir. On 30 September, Haukar lost the second leg 79–81, after starting the game 2–21, but advanced to the regular season with a combined 160–157 victory. Úrvalsdeild Kvenna (basketball)
Úrvalsdeild kvenna; English: Women's Premier League, known as Subway deild kvenna for sponsorship reasons, is the highest basketball competition among women's clubs in Iceland. It is administrated by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. It was founded in 1952 and, until 2007, it was known as 1. deild kvenna (English: Women's First division). Ólafur Rafnsson
Ólafur Eðvarð Rafnsson (7 April 1963 - 19 June 2013) was the president of FIBA Europe from 2010 until 2013. He also served president of the Icelandic Basketball Association from 1996 until 2006 when he was voted as the president of the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland where he served until 2013. Basketball career Club Ólafur played 109 games in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla from 1983 until 1989, averaging 9.7 points per game. He won the Icelandic championship with Haukar in 1988 and the Icelandic cup in 1985 and 1986. National team Ólafur played 7 games for the Icelandic national team between 1985 and 1986. Helena Sverrisdóttir (born 11 March 1988) is an Icelandic former basketball player. Generally considered the greatest Icelandic female basketball player of all time, she was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year, Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year 12 times. During her playing career, she won the Icelandic championship five times and the Slovak Women's Basketball Extraliga, Slovak championship two times. 2022–23 Úrvalsdeild Kvenna (basketball)
The 2022–23 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 66th season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 20 September 2022 and concluded on 28 April 2023 with Valur winning the national championship after beating Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild finals, 3–1. Kiana Johnson of Valur was named the Finals MVP. Competition format The participating teams first play a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 28 games. Eva Margrét Kristjánsdóttir (born 17 January 1997) is an Icelandic basketball player who currently plays for Haukarand the Icelandic national basketball team. She won the Icelandic championship with Snæfell in 2014 and the Icelandic Cup three times from 2021 to 2023 with Haukar. A two-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection, she was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 2023. The Icelandic Women's Basketball Company Cup, commonly known as the Women's Company Cup (Icelandic: Fyrirtækjabikar kvenna), was an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland that was organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. It was Iceland's second-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's first-tier cup competition, the Icelandic Cup. History and format The Company Cup was founded in 2000 and its first edition, bearing the name ''Kjörísbikarinn'' after its sponsor ''Kjörís'', took place in December that year. It included all five Úrvalsdeild kvennaa teams and three teams from the second-tier 1. deild kvenna, with Keflavík, KFÍ, KR and ÍS advancing to the final four.
