Hattingen (Ruhr) Station
Hattingen station is located in the town of Hattingen on the Ruhr river in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. History Construction of the station building started on 15 August 1868 and it was officially opened on 15 February 1870. The building is constructed out of Ruhr sandstone with a three-storey tower on the entrance side. Like many monumental buildings of the Gründerzeit, it is based on the style of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The station is located on a section of the Ruhr Valley Railway opened on the 28 December 1869 by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company. Bahnhofsstraße connects the station, which is situated close to the Ruhr, with the town of Hattingen. At the end of the 19th century, this street was the axis of an extension of the town to the west. The Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (german: S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr) is a polycentric and electrically driven S-train network covering the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region in the German federated state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Bochum Dahlhausen Railway Museum
The Eisenbahnmuseum Bochum-Dahlhausen is a railway museum situated south of the city of Bochum in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded by DGEG, the German Railway History Company in 1977 and is based in a locomotive depot that was built between 1916 and 1918 and ceased operation in 1969. Then DGEG took over the whole area of 46,000 square metres and built up the biggest railway museum in Germany. In the middle of the museum, there is an engine shed with fourteen tracks. A preserved turntable, coaling, watering, and sanding facilities are still in operation. The Industrial Heritage Trail
The Industrial Heritage Trail (german: Route der Industriekultur) links tourist attractions related to the industrial heritage in the Ruhr area in Germany. It is a part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The series of routes were developed between 1989 and 1999, however additions are still being made. The route The trail network connects museums and exhibitions that present the industrial revolution during the last 750 years in the Ruhr area. It includes 400 km of road network and about 700 km of bicycle tracks. Karl Friedrich Schinkel
Karl Friedrich Schinkel (13 March 1781 – 9 October 1841) was a Prussian architect, city planner and painter who also designed furniture and stage sets. Schinkel was one of the most prominent architects of Germany and designed both neoclassical and neogothic buildings. His most famous buildings are found in and around Berlin. Biography Schinkel was born in Neuruppin, Margraviate of Brandenburg. When he was six, his father died in the disastrous Neuruppin fire of 1787.
