Hatter's Castle (film)
''Hatter's Castle'' is a 1942 British film noir based on the 1931 novel ''Hatter's Castle'' by A. J. Cronin, which dramatizes the ruin that befalls a Scottish hatter set on recapturing his imagined lost nobility. The film was made by Paramount British Pictures and stars Robert Newton, Deborah Kerr, James Mason, and Emlyn Williams. It is believed to be the only film that depicts the Tay Bridge disaster. It was shot at Denham Studios with sets designed by the art director James A. Carter. Paul Merzbach
Paul Merzbach (27 November 1888 – September 1943) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director. Merzbach worked in the Austrian and Germany film industries during the early stages of his career. He worked initially on scripts, but in 1924 he directed his first film. During the late 1920s, Merzbach worked in Sweden before returning to Germany. Following the Nazi rise to power in 1933, Merzbach went into exile in Britain.Brinson, Dove & Taylor p.139 He worked in the British film industry for the remainder of his career. Art director is the title for a variety of similar job functions in theater, advertising, marketing, publishing, fashion, film industry, film and television, the Internet, and video games. Mary Hinton (1896–1979) was a British stage, film and television actress. She was born as Emily Rachel Forster to the politician Henry Forster, 1st Baron Forster and the Honourable Rachel Cecily Douglas-Scott-Montagu, daughter of Henry Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 1st Baron Montagu of Beaulieu. Ian Fleming (born Ian Macfarlane; 10 September 1888 – 1 January 1969) was an Australian character actor with credits in over 100 British films. One of his best known roles was playing Dr Watson in a series of Sherlock Holmes films of the 1930s opposite Arthur Wontner's Holmes. Laurence Hanray ( Lawrence Henry Jacobs; 16 May 1874 – 28 November 1947), sometimes credited as Lawrence Hanray, was a British film and theatre actor born in London, England. He is also credited as the author of several plays and music hall songs. Laurence Hanray was born Lawrence Henry Jacobs in St John's Wood on 16 May 1874, the son of Angelo Jacobs (c. 1851–1910), a glass manufacturer, and Leah (née Nathan; 1850/1851–1946). George Merritt (actor)
Frederick George Merritt (10 December 1890 – 27 September 1977) was an English theatre, film and television actor, often in authoritarian roles. He studied German theatre in Magdeburg, Germany, and taught at the Berlitz School at the outbreak of the First World War, when he was held as a British Civil Prisoner of War, and interned at Ruhleben, 1914–1918. He was involved in over 50 plays at Ruhleben. He lived for many years in Lissenden Gardens, Parliament Hill, north west London. Sir Anthony Bateman (died 1687) was an English merchant who was Lord Mayor of London in 1663. Bateman was the son of Robert Bateman, chamberlain of the city. He was a city of London merchant and a member of the Worshipful Company of Skinners. From 1645 to 1646 he was one of the Court Assistants to the Levant Company, and from 1645 to 1649 was a member of the committee of the East India Company.
