Harsimus Cove is a station on the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located at Metro Plaza Drive in the Harsimus Section of downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. Harborside station (formerly named Harborside Financial Center station) is a station on the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located east of Greene Street, between Morgan and Steuben Streets, in Exchange Place section of Jersey City, New Jersey and named for the adjacent Harborside (Jersey City) office complex. Van Vorst Township, New Jersey
Van Vorst was a township that existed in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, from 1841 to 1851, that is now a neighborhood in Jersey City. The township was located on the Hudson River, to the west and north of the original territory of Jersey City and across from Manhattan. Pavonia Terminal
Pavonia Terminal was the Erie Railroad terminal on the Hudson River situated on the landfilled Harsimus Cove in Jersey City, New Jersey. The station opened in 1861 and closed in 1958 when the Erie Railroad moved its passenger services to nearby Hoboken Terminal. The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway also ran commuter trains from the terminal and various street cars, ferries and the underground Hudson and Manhattan Railroad serviced the station. The station was abandoned in 1958 and demolished in 1961. The site was eventually redeveloped into the Newport district in the late 20th century. Pavonia, New Netherland
Pavonia was the first European settlement on the west bank of the North River (Hudson River) that was part of the seventeenth-century province of New Netherland in what would become the present Hudson County, New Jersey. Hudson and the Hackensack The first European to record exploration of the area was Robert Juet, first mate of Henry Hudson, an English sea captain commissioned by the Dutch East India Company. Their ship, the ''Halve Maen'' (''Half Moon''), ventured in the Kill van Kull and Newark Bay and anchored at Weehawken Cove during 1609, while exploring the Upper New York Bay and the Hudson Valley. Horseshoe, Jersey City
The Horseshoe section of Jersey City, New Jersey, was the second ward, and was the home of the immigrants, tenements, and taverns. The Republican-controlled Legislature gerrymandered the district in 1871 to concentrate and isolate Democratic, and mostly Catholic, votes, thus preserving Republican dominance in the rest of the state. The curved shape of the district was said to resemble a horseshoe. As competing railroads built cuts through Bergen Hill, they also built viaducts from the foot of the cliff which passed through residential districts to the waterfront. The district is often associated with the name Pavonia encompassing Harsimus Cove, Hamilton Park, Powerhouse and the former site of the Erie Railroad's Hudson waterfront Pavonia Terminal and the Pavonia Ferry, which since the 1980s has been redeveloped as Newport. Tonnelle Avenue Station
Tonnelle Avenue is a ground-level station on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located at 51st Street in North Bergen, New Jersey. The station opened for service on February 25, 2006. Service from the station travels to West Side Avenue in Jersey City at all times. On weekdays, service is also available to Hoboken Terminal. In conjunction with the station, New Jersey Transit operates a 730-space park-and-ride lot on Tonnelle Avenue ( U.S. Route 1 & 9), between 49th and 51st Streets. Currently, the station is the northern terminus for the light rail system, with two tracks and an island platform. The proposed Northern Branch Corridor Project would extend the line from Tonnelle Avenue north into Englewood, in eastern Bergen County. Daily and monthly parking is available.
