Harry the Husky is a body-suit mascot for the University of Washington, one of two mascots the University's athletic program currently uses. Hendrix The Husky
Hendrix the Husky is a mascot at the University of Washington Tacoma, often seen at events hosted by the institution such as Husky Hangouts, new student orientations, and movie nights. The mascot, a male Husky, husky dog, was introduced in 2009. History In summer 2008, the Student Activity Board at UW Tacoma wished to adopt a school mascot for the university, and the school's Spirit and Traditions chair began to work on the idea shortly after. They teamed up with Student Affairs and Husky Athletics and nine months later in early 2009, the husky mascot was introduced. The university's students were asked to vote on what to name him, with the stipulation that the name begin with "H". Names such as Hayley, Hilda, and Humphrey were submitted to the ballot, but the ultimate winner of the vote was "Hendrix" (the second most popular name was "Hauser"). The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) is a campus of University of Washington in Tacoma, Washington. The UW Tacoma campus opened in leased space in 1990 and opened its permanent campus in 1997. Alaskan Malamute
The Alaskan Malamute () is a large breed of dog that was originally bred for its strength and endurance to haul heavy freight as a sled dog and hound. It is similar to other arctic breeds such as the husky, the spitz, the Greenland Dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed. Lineage Although it is believed that the first dogs arrived in the Americas 12,000 years ago, people and their dogs did not settle in the Arctic until the Paleo-Eskimo people 4,500 years ago, followed by the Thule people 1,000 years ago, with both originating from Siberia. Sigma Alpha Epsilon (), commonly known as SAE, is a North American Greek-letter social college fraternity. It was founded at the University of Alabama on March 9, 1856. Of all existing national social fraternities today, Sigma Alpha Epsilon is the only one founded in the Antebellum South. Washington Huskies
The Washington Huskies are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Washington, located in Seattle. The school competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. Washington students, sports teams, and alumni are called Huskies. The husky was selected as the school mascot by the Associated Students of UW in 1922. It replaced the "Sun Dodger," an abstract reference to the local weather that was quickly dropped in favor of something more tangible.
