Harry Winkler (handballer)
Harry William Winkler, Jr. (born April 10, 1945) is an American former Olympic handball Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the g ...er and retired school teacher. He was also a member of the U.S. Men's handball team at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the U.S. Men's handball team at the 1976 Summer Olympics and coached the U.S. Women’s Olympic handball team at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He retired from teaching at Forest Hill Community High School after over 30 years in 2009. Early life Winkler was born in Philadelphia. He graduated from Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1963. Winkler attended the University of Florida. Harry Winkler (writer)
Harry Winkler was an American sitcom writer who wrote for such shows as ''The George Gobel Show'', ''The Addams Family'', ''The Doris Day Show'', and others. He shared an Emmy award in 1955 for ''The George Gobel Show'' and was nominated the following year for the same show. In that same year, 1956, one of his television scripts was featured in ''The Prize Plays of Television and Radio 1956'', published by Random House. Winkler also wrote the groundbreaking series ''Julia'' starring Diahann Carroll, the first commercial television series to star an African-American female in the lead role of a single, professional woman with a family to support. He also wrote the original treatment "The Flagstones" for what ultimately became known as ''The Flintstones''. Additional credits include having been the ghost writer for the Blondie comic strip series for over 25 years, 1955 through 1980.
