Harry Smith (cricketer, Born 1884)
Harry Ernest Smith (21 April 1884 – 25 April 1935) was a cricketer who played first-class cricket in South Africa from 1905 to 1908. He toured England with the South Africans in 1907 but did not play Test cricket. Personal life Harry Smith's father, James, had two sons with his first wife. After she died he married again, and had five children with his second wife, of whom Harry was the first. The first son of the first marriage, Charlie, went on to play Test cricket for South Africa. Harry married Olive Thomson in Johannesburg in April 1914, and they lived in Boksburg until they divorced in 1921. They had no children. Harry worked for some time as a hotel clerk in Boksburg, and at the time of his death from heart failure in 1935 he was working as a timekeeper for a local mining company. Cradock, Eastern Cape
Cradock is a town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, in the upper valley of the Great Fish River, by road northeast of Port Elizabeth. The town is the administrative seat of the Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality in the Chris Hani District of the Eastern Cape. The town is named after John Cradock, governor of the Cape Colony and commander of the forces. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Thelma Gutsche
Thelma Gutsche (7 January 1915 – 5 November 1984) was a South African filmmaker, film historian, writer, and arts patron, referred to as "South Africa's most accomplished early cinema historian" by a later film scholar. Early life and education Thelma Gutsche was born at Somerset West, Cape Province, the daughter of Jesse Gutsche and Agnes Patricia Anne Mackintosh Gutsche. Her father was a factory manager. She earned degrees at the University of Cape Town in the Ethics, Logic, and Philosophy program. In 1946 she completed her doctoral studies in social history, with a dissertation titled ''The History and Social Significance of Motion Pictures in South Africa 1895 - 1940''. Her dissertation was later published as a book, about which one scholar said, "As a detailed historical account of cinema up to 1940, there is nothing to rival it." Cyril Deason Robinson (18 July 1873 – 25 August 1948) was a South African and English cricketer and clergyman. Biography Robinson was born in Durban, Natal Province, the son of Frederic Sidney Robinson, the Archdeacon of Durban. He was educated at Hilton College in Natal and St John's College, Cambridge. Robinson was a right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He made his first-class debut for Cambridge University against CI Thornton's XI in 1901. He played 8 further first-class matches for the university, the last coming against Nottinghamshire in 1896. Eastern Province Cricket Team
Eastern Province cricket team was the former team that represented the Eastern Province in domestic first-class cricket in South Africa, alongside one-day matches. Eastern Province played first-class cricket from 1893–94 to 2004–05, when the team was merged with neighbouring team Border to form the entirely professional franchise the Warriors. From 2004–05 the former provincial teams, such as Eastern Province, were allocated two CSA Provincial Competitions that they could participate in: the CSA 3-Day Cup and the CSA One-Day Cup. Although given first-class status, these competitions were to be only semi-professional and no longer represented the top level of domestic cricket in South Africa. Western Province Cricket Team
Western Province is the team representing Western Cape province in domestic first-class cricket in South Africa. The team began playing in January 1890 and its main venue has always been Newlands in Cape Town. Under the reorganisation of professional South African cricket in the 1990s and more recently, Western Province joined with Boland to form the side that now plays in the SuperSport Series under the name Cape Cobras and divides its time between Newlands and the Boland Park ground in Paarl.
