Harry Griffiths (footballer, Born 1912)
Harry Stanley Griffiths (17 November 1912 – 11 June 1981) was an English footballer and baseball international. He played in defence for Everton between 1930 and 1935. Still, after failing to get a game, he moved on to Port Vale between 1935 and 1947, playing 190 games in all wartime and peacetime competitions. Outside the game, he was a Police officer and later became a parkkeeper. Career Griffiths began his career at Everton in 1930, as the "Toffees" won promotion to the First Division as Second Division champions in 1930–31. They then topped the Football League in 1931–32, finishing two points ahead of Arsenal. Dropping to eleventh in 1932–33, Everton won the FA Cup, though Griffiths played no part in the final. They dropped to fourteenth in 1933–34, rising to eight in 1934–35. Tom Morgan (footballer)
Thomas M. Morgan was a football manager, noted in the 1930s for twice being the manager of Port Vale, which is the area where he was born, as well having a spell as manager of Wrexham. Playing career Morgan played for Etruria Church, Goldenhill Villa, Tunstall Park and Goldenhill Warriors before joining Port Vale in the summer of 1910. He scored twice on his debut at inside-right in a 4–2 win at Audley in a Burslem Park Cup game. However he was forced into retirement due to injury the following year, having played just a further four games for the club. Coaching career Morgan was offered employment at Vale following his injury. He worked as a scout, assistant secretary and reserve team manager before being appointed the first time manager following the death of Joe Schofield in October 1929. The Third Division South of The Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division North with clubs elected to the League or relegated from Division Two allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division South and the Third Division North according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. In professional football, a transfer is the action taken whenever a player under contract moves between clubs. Warney Cresswell
Warneford Cresswell (5 November 1897 – 20 October 1973) was an English international footballer who was described as "The Prince of Full Backs" for his renowned tackling and positional skills in the right-back position. In a seventeen-year career in the English Football League he made 571 league appearances, and won seven caps for England. He began his career during World War I, playing in the Scottish Football League with Morton, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian, before signing with English Second Division club South Shields in 1919. Three years later he moved into the First Division when he was bought by Sunderland for a world-record fee of £5,500. He made 190 league and cup appearances and helped the "Black Cats" to a second-place finish in 1922–23, before moving on to Everton for £7,000 in 1927. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season.
