Harold Stephens (American Football)
Ernest Harold Stephens (born October 30, 1938) is a former American football quarterback who played one season with the New York Titans (football), New York Titans of the American Football League. He played college football at Hardin–Simmons University and attended Abilene High School (Abilene, Texas), Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas. He won the Sammy Baugh Trophy in 1960 NCAA University Division football season, 1960. Abilene ( ) is a city in Taylor and Jones Counties in Texas, United States. Its population was 125,182 at the 2020 census, making it the 27th-most populous city in the state of Texas. Hardin–Simmons University (HSU) is a private Baptist university in Abilene, Texas. It is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (Southern Baptist Convention). History Hardin–Simmons University was founded as Abilene Baptist College in 1891 by the Sweetwater Baptist Association and a group of cattlemen and pastors who sought to bring Christian higher education to the Southwest. The purpose of the school would be "to lead students to Christ, teach them of Christ, and train them for Christ." The original land was donated to the university by rancher C.W. Merchant. It was the first school of higher education established in Texas west of Fort Worth. The school was renamed Simmons College in 1892 in honor of an early contributor, James B. Simmons. Caps, Texas
Caps is an unincorporated community in Taylor County, Texas, United States. It is located southwest of Abilene near the intersection of U.S. Highway 277 and FM 707. The community is part of the Abilene Metropolitan Statistical Area. Caps was first settled in the early 1880s. The area was known as ''Border's Chapel'' until 1905. That year, residents gathered to select a new name for the community. A man reportedly threw his cap in the air and said, "Let's call it caps," and the idea was approved. In 1935, Butterfield School was constructed between the communities of Caps and View.
