Harold Lloyd's World Of Comedy
''World of Comedy'', also known as ''Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy'', is a 1962 American documentary compilation of scenes from Harold Lloyd's best known films. The clips were personally selected by Lloyd, who also wrote the voiceover narration. Plot The film marked the return of Lloyd to cinemas after an absence of almost two decades, and it included extended excerpts from the classics ''Safety Last!'' and '' Feet First'' which had not been publicly screened during the previous three decades. Reception The film was well received by most critics and audiences as a reminder of Lloyd's creative output as the third (with Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton) of the "Big 3" great silent comedy filmmakers. It was premiered at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival where it received a standing ovation. Harold Clayton Lloyd, Sr. (April 20, 1893 – March 8, 1971) was an American actor, comedian, and stunt performer who appeared in many silent comedy films.Obituary ''Variety'', March 10, 1971, page 55. One of the most influential film comedians of the silent film era, Lloyd made nearly 200 comedy films, both silent and "talkies", between 1914 and 1947. His bespectacled "Glass" character was a resourceful, ambitious go-getter who matched the zeitgeist of the 1920s-era United States. His films frequently contained "thrill sequences" of extended chase scenes and daredevil physical feats. Compilation Films
A compilation film, or compilation movie is a film composed of scenes and shots taken from two or more prior films and edited together so as to make a new film, whether on the same or a different subject. The most common example would be a documentary film on an historical event composed of footage from various newsreels and other film documentaries on the same subject. New footage and/or a new soundtrack may also be included in a compilation film, but the compiled, older footage makes up the majority of its principal material. Compilation film does not include, however, a simple editing together of several short films, complete in themselves and distinguished as such from each others, which should be considered as film anthologies. American comedy films are comedy films produced in the United States. The genre is one of the oldest in American cinema; some of the first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. ''Girl Shy'' is a 1924 romantic comedy silent film starring Harold Lloyd and Jobyna Ralston. The movie was written by Sam Taylor, Tim Whelan and Ted Wilde and was directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Taylor. In 2020, the film entered the public domain. Plot Harold Meadows is a tailor's apprentice for his uncle in Little Bend, California. Harold Lloyd Filmography
These are the known films of Harold Lloyd (1893–1971), an American actor and filmmaker most famous for his hugely successful and influential silent film comedies. Most of these films are known to survive in Lloyd's personal archive collection and in various film archives around the world. Some are also available on DVD or Blu-ray. The negatives of many of Lloyd's early short films were lost in a fire at his estate in 1943. The losses include five of the six Willie Work films, 53 of the 67 Lonesome Luke films, and 15 of the 81 one-reel Glasses character films. All of Lloyd's films from '' Bumping into Broadway'' (1919) onward exist in complete form in the archives. He carefully preserved his feature films, and they remain in excellent condition. Walter Scharf (August 1, 1910 – February 24, 2003) was an American musician, best known as a film, television and concert composer and arranger/conductor. Biography Broadway theatre Born in Manhattan, he was the son of Yiddish theatre comic Bessie Zwerling. While in his 20s, he was one of the orchestrators for George Gershwin's Broadway musical ''Girl Crazy'', became singer Helen Morgan's accompanist, and later worked as pianist and arranger for singer Rudy Vallee. Film He began working in Hollywood in 1933, arranging for Al Jolson at Warner Bros., Alice Faye at 20th Century-Fox and Bing Crosby at Paramount. He orchestrated the original version of Irving Berlin's '' White Christmas'' for the film ''Holiday Inn'' (1942), and from 1942 to 1946 he served as head of music for Republic Pictures.
