Harold S. Grant (January 16, 1900 – December 31, 1997) was an American football coach. He was the fifth head football coach at the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas Emporia is a city in and the county seat of Lyon County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 24,139. Emporia lies between Topeka and Wichita at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 with Interstates 335 .... His teams accumulated a record of 34–4–1. His teams won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in 1925 and shared the title in 1927 with cross-town rival Kansas State Teachers. ''Strange Brother'' is a gay novel written by Blair Niles published in 1931. The story is about a Platonic love, platonic relationship between a heterosexual woman and a gay man and takes place in New York City in the late 1920s and early 1930s. ''Strange Brother'' provides an early and objective documentation of homosexuality, homosexual issues during the Harlem Renaissance. Plot summary Mark Thornton, the story's protagonist, moves to New York City in hopes of feeling like less of an outsider. At a nightclub in Harlem he meets and befriends June Westbrook. One night they witness a man named Nelly being arrested. June encourages Mark to investigate. This leads Mark to attend Nelly's trial, where he is found guilty and sentenced to six months' imprisonment on Roosevelt Island, Welfare Island for his feminine affections and gestures. Harold Taylor Wood Grant
Vice-Admiral Harold Taylor Wood Grant, (March 16, 1899 – May 8, 1965) was a Canadian naval officer and a post-war Chief of the Naval Staff. The son of Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, MacCallum Grant, Harold Grant entered the Royal Canadian Navy as a cadet in 1914. He spent most of the First World War in training until 1917, when he became a midshipman aboard a British Royal Navy ship. Considered an above average officer, he was earmarked for early promotion during the interwar period and by 1938, commanded the destroyer . During the Second World War, Grant was sent to command the British cruisers and as training in preparation for the Canadian acquisition of the ship type later in the war. During his time in command of ''Enterprise'', he took part in the Battle of the Bay of Biscay, earning his Distinguished Service Order, the invasion of Normandy and bombardment of Cherbourg where he was wounded.
