Harbor Island, Newport Beach
Harbor Island is a small artificial island in Newport Beach, California. Newport Harbor is a semi-artificial harbor that was formed by dredging an estuary during the early 1900s. Several artificial islands were built, including Harbor Island, now covered with about thirty private homes. It is a gated community and is home to many very expensive homes. Every home is along one street, Harbor Island Road, and each plot has waterfront access with one or more boat docks. Notable residents include George Argyros, Donald Bren, and Bill Gross. Aaron Of Aleth
Aaron of Aleth (died after 552), also called ''Saint Aihran'' or ''Eran'' in Breton, was a sixth-century hermit, monk and abbot at a monastery on Cézembre, a small island near Aleth, opposite Saint-Malo in Brittany, France. Some sources suggest he may have migrated from Celtic Britain to take up residence in Armorican Domnonia. He lived alone near Lamballe and Pleumeur-Gautier, before finally settling on an island separated from the settlement of Aleth. He attracted many visitors while there, including Malo, it is said, in 544, and became their abbot. He died soon afterwards. Malo then succeeded to the spiritual rule of the district subsequently known as Saint-Malo, and was consecrated first Bishop of Aleth. Geography Harbour Island is situated adjacent to Downtown across the Garrison Channel. Other nearby areas include Davis Islands and Channelside. The Tampa Convention Center is located directly across the Harbour Island Bridge and Channelside is just across Beneficial Drive, both walking distance. History Harbour Island was originally known as Seddon Island, which was named after W. L. Seddon, chief engineer for the Seaboard Air Line Railway. In 1906, a public hearing was held to plan a new port for the city. The Ramea Islands, Newfoundland and Labrador, are an archipel of the south coast of Newfoundland. In 1864 there was a small community of 30 families. Harbour Island (Little Bay Islands)
Little Bay Islands is a vacant town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It consists of Little Bay Island, Macks Island, Goat Island, Harbour Island and Boatswain Tickle Island. The highest mount is high Campbell Hill, which is located in Notre Dame Bay, near Springdale. In February 2019, the permanent residents voted to be relocated and nearly all of the 55 residents departed by late December 2019. This was part of a relocation program operated by the provincial government for small communities that had become too expensive to service. Property owners who were permanent residents were paid at least $250,000 in compensation for relocation expenses. Two residents decided to stay, living off of the grid and installing solar panels and wireless internet. Malo (saint)
Saint Malo (; also known as Maclou, Maloù or Mac'h Low, or in Latin as Maclovius or Machutus, 27 March 520 – 15 November 621) was a Welsh mid-sixth century founder of Saint-Malo, a commune in Brittany, France. He was one of the seven founding saints of Brittany. Life Malo's name may derive from the Old Breton ''machlou'', a compound of ''mach'' "warrant, hostage" and ''lou'' (or ''loh'') "brilliant, bright, beautiful". Details of Malo's career have been preserved in three medieval 'Lives' that seem to include incidents associated with multiple people bearing a similar name. Malo was probably born in Llancarfan (Wales) in approximately 520. He was the son of Dervel, sister of Amwn Ddu, and therefore cousin to St. Samson. He was placed in the abbot's care at a tender age, and grew up at the abbey, where he was ordained priest and assigned the office of preacher. Harbor Island, San Diego
Harbor Island is a man-made peninsula created in 1961 from harbor dredgings, located in San Diego Bay, San Diego, California. It lies between Shelter Island and Downtown San Diego, and is directly across Harbor Drive from San Diego Airport. It is long and only a few hundred feet wide. A single road, Harbor Island Drive, runs from one end of Harbor Island to the other and connects it to the mainland. The "island" includes several marinas which harbor thousands of small boats, as well as several restaurants, two high-rise hotels, and Harbor Island Drive Park. It is under the control of the Port of San Diego, which owns all the land and provides municipal services such as police, road maintenance, etc. Harbor Island businesses lease their location from the Port.
