''Happening'' is an ATV-0 music television program that ran for four hours on a Saturday morning. It ran from 1970-72. The series played video clips, had live performers and showed interviews and discussions. The first season was titled ''Happening '70'' and was hosted by Ross D. Wyllie Ross D. Wyllie (born 21 November 1944) is an Australian pop music singer, television presenter and producer from the 1960s and 1970s. Wyllie had a top 20 hit with his cover of Ray Stevens' song "Funny Man" and an Australian No. 1 with .... It began on 14 March 1970 after an injunction preventing its broadcast was lifted. The producers of the series '' Uptight'' had argued it was too similar to their own production, having the same host, format and timeslot. It continued the next year as ''Happening '71'' during which Jeff Phillips took over as host. Happening '68
''Happening '68'' was a rock-and-roll variety show produced by Dick Clark Productions, which aired on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) network. The show followed ''American Bandstand'' on Saturday afternoons. ''Happening '68'' premiered on January 6, 1968 and was popular enough that ABC added a weekday spin-off. ''It's Happening'' ran on Mondays through Fridays from July 15, 1968 through October 25, 1968. When 1968 ended, ''Happening '68'' became just ''Happening'', which was canceled in October 1969. ''Happening '68'' was co-hosted by Mark Lindsay and Paul Revere. Their band Paul Revere and the Raiders made frequent appearances. There were guest performers lip-synching their latest releases, band contests with celebrity judges and other bits to attract teenage audiences. ATV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia, part of Network 10 – one of the three major Australian free-to-air commercial television networks. The station is owned by Paramount Networks UK & Australia. History In April 1963, the licence to operate Melbourne's third commercial television station was awarded to Austarama Television, owned by transport magnate Reginald Ansett. The new channel, ATV-0 (pronounced as the letter ''O'', never the number ''zero''), began transmission on 1 August 1964 from a large modern studio complex located in the then-outer eastern suburb of Nunawading, in the locality now known as Forest Hill, but referred to at the time as Burwood East. ''Uptight'' is an Australian music television series which aired on ATV-0 in Melbourne from 1967 until 1969 on Saturday mornings at 8am to 12pm, it was hosted by singer Ross D. Wyllie.McFarlane (1999). Encyclopedia entry for A compilation album, ''Uptight – Party Time'', by Ross D. Wyllie and the Uptight Party Team, was issued via Calendar/Festival Records in 1968. Jeff Phillips (singer)
Jeffrey Travis Andrew Phillips (born November 1948) is an Australian TV show host, personality, musical theatre actor and pop singer active from 1966 to the early 1990s. As a pop singer, he had a Top 40 hit on the ''Go-Set'' singles chart with a cover version of The Shirelles' 1961 hit, "Baby It's You". At the Logie Awards of 1970, he won the Best New Talent category for hosting his own ABC TV pop show, '' Sounds Like Us''. In the early 1970s he hosted a series of teen pop music shows, ''Happening '71'' and ''Happening '72''. In July 1972 Phillips won a song prize at the Fifth Olympiad of Song, held in Athens, performing his self-written work, "Gloria"; the prize money was 100,000 drachmae (AUD $2,797). Johnny Young
Johnny Young (born Johnny Benjamin de Jong; 12 March 1947) is a Dutch Australian singer, composer, record producer, disc jockey, television producer and host. Originally from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, his family settled in Perth in the early 1950s. Young was a 1960s pop singer and had a number-one hit with the double-A-sided, "Step Back" and a cover of the Strangeloves' "Cara-lyn" in 1966. Young's profile was enhanced by a concurrent stint as host of TV pop music program ''The Go!! Show''. Also in the mid-1960s, Young toured with the Rolling Stones and supported Roy Orbison.
