Hapoel Tirat HaCarmel ( he, הפועל טירת הכרמל) is an Israeli football club based in Tirat Carmel. The club currently plays in Liga Gimel Samaria division and play home matches at the Avi Ran Ground in Haifa. History The club have spent 12 seasons in the second tier of Israeli football. They were promoted to the second tier for the first time, after they won Liga Bet North B division in the 1968–69 season. In the 1971–72 season, and once more, in the 1972–73 season, the club reached their best placing to date, after they finished fourth in Liga Alef North division, in both seasons. The club remained in the second tier until 1976, when Liga Artzit came into existence and became the new second tier of Israeli football, whilst Liga Alef became the third tier. The club finished the 1975–76 season in the ninth place, and was not promoted to Liga Artzit. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the Mandate for Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi World Union, Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of Israel Football Association, football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of Socialist Workers' Sport International, SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. The 1978–79 Liga Artzit season saw Hakoah Ramat Gan win the title and win promotion to Liga Leumit. Maccabi Ramat Amidar and Hapoel Petah Tikva were also promoted. The 1988–89 Liga Alef season saw Hapoel Tirat HaCarmel (champions of the North Division) and Hapoel Rishon LeZion (champions of the South Division) win their regional divisions and promotion to Liga Artzit. The 1954–55 Liga Gimel season was the last in which Liga Gimel was the third tier of Israeli football, as the new Liga Leumit became the top division, Liga Alef became the second tier, and Liga Bet became the third tier. The Israeli football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Israel. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, and allows even the smallest club to dream of rising to the very top of the system.
