Hans Hopfen
Demetrius Hans (Ritter von) Hopfen (3 January 1835 – 19 November 1904) was a Bavarian poet and novelist. Hans Hopfen (originally Mayer), the son of Angelotta Mayer (1807-1880), was born in Munich. At the age of 10 he was acknowledged by his father Simon Hopfen. Hans studied law and history from 1853 to 1858 in Munich, where he was a member of the Corps Franconia. He retired from the Bavarian civil service soon after the referendary and began publishing his songs and ballads (''Lieder und Balladen'') in Emanuel Geibel's ''Münchener Dichterbuch'' (1862); he was soon inducted into the Munich circle of writers known as ''Die Krokodile''. By the age of 25 he had earned a reputation as a gifted romantic with his lyrical poems (especially the powerful ballad of the ''Sendlinger Bauernschlacht'', one of the highlights of his career) and the humorous peasant novel ''Der alte Praktikant''. Karl Emil Franzos (25 October 184828 January 1904) was a popular Austrian novelist of the late 19th century. His works, both reportage and fiction, concentrate on the multi-ethnic corner of Galicia, Podolia and Bukovina, now largely in western Ukraine, where the Habsburg and Russian empires met. This area became so closely associated with his name that one critic called it "Franzos country". A number of his books were translated into English, and Gladstone is said to have been among his admirers. Rudelsburg
The Rudelsburg is a ruined hill castle located on the east bank of the river Saale above Saaleck, a village in the borough of Naumburg in the county of Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The Rudelsburg was built in the Middle Ages by the Bishop of Naumburg and served to secure trade routes such as the Via Regia through the Saale Valley. The Rudelsburg was a point of conflict between the bishops of Naumburg and the Margraves of Meissen belonging to the House of Wettin. The castle occasionally served various noble families as a residence, until it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and thereafter fell into disrepair.
