An executioner, also known as a hangman or headsman, is an official who executes a sentence of capital punishment on a legally condemned person. Scope and job The executioner was usually presented with a warrant authorising or ordering him to ''execute'' the sentence. The warrant protects the executioner from the charge of murder. Common terms for executioners derived from forms of capital punishment—though they often also performed other physical punishments—include hangman (hanging) and headsman (beheading). In the military, the role of executioner was performed by a soldier, such as the ''provost''. A common stereotype of an executioner is a hooded medieval or absolutist executioner. Symbolic or real, executioners were rarely hooded, and not robed in all black; hoods were only used if an executioner's identity and anonymity were to be preserved from the public. ''Hangmen'' is a 1987 American action thriller film written and directed by J. Christian Ingvordsen, and marked the acting debut of actress Sandra Bullock. Plot Dick Biel is the security agent of a US senator, who is responsible for responding to the incident. He accidentally kills several innocent bystanders with the team, during the operation. Several years later, Rob Greene becomes the leader of the secret operations team that had been charged with protecting the senator, having information about a renegade CIA cell and that cell wants Greene and his information. He runs from the cell, so they attempt to kidnap his son as a hostage. In the process, they murder Denny best friend, two of Rob Greene’s former team, Rob’s ex-wife and her new husband. The rest of the team get together to fight back, including the team member responsible for the deaths of bystanders years before. ''Hangmen'' is a play by the Ireland, Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. It received its world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in September 2015, before transferring to the West End theatre, West End's Wyndham's Theatre. The Hangmen (British Band)
The Hangmen are a three piece band from the North East of England who play their own compositions. Musically they are a punk-rockabilly hybrid often categorised as 'psychobilly', with dark and often dramatic lyrics. The instrumentation is vocals, guitar, double bass and drums. To date they have released nine albums, one of these ''Play Dead'' being a live concert recording. They have also released two 7-inch EPs, a 10-inch EP, a split 7-inch single and a download single.
