Hampton (electoral District)
Hampton is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was first contested in the 2014 general election, having been created in the 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries. The district includes the Town of Hampton and a small part of the Town of Quispamsis, from which it runs southwesterly to Mispec, including parts of the City of Saint John south of the Mispec River and rural and suburban communities in between. New Brunswick Electoral Redistribution, 2013
The 2013 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was undertaken through the process set out in the ''Electoral Boundaries and Representation Act'' of New Brunswick, Canada. The legislation establishes a statutory requirement for redistribution of electoral districts after every second New Brunswick general election. A commission was struck to draw 49 electoral districts, a decrease from 55 districts, which will first be used in the 2014 provincial election. The 49 boundaries will have to be within the range of 95% to 105% of the 1/49th of the number of registered voters in the province except in "extraordinary circumstances". Under the legislation, the commission will be chaired by one anglophone and one francophone and consist of 3 to 5 other commissioners, all of whom must be New Brunswick residents. 2014 New Brunswick General Election
The 2014 New Brunswick general election was held on September 22, 2014, to elect 49 members to the 58th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The 2013 redistribution reduced the size of the legislature from 55 seats to 49. The New Brunswick Liberal Association, led by Brian Gallant, won a majority government, defeating Incumbent Premier David Alward's Progressive Conservatives, which became the second single-term government in New Brunswick's history. The New Democratic Party, led by Dominic Cardy won the highest support in its history, though failed to win any seats. As a result of these losses, both Alward and Cardy resigned as leaders of their respective parties. Bev Harrison
Beverly John "Bev" Harrison (born May 10, 1942) is a former teacher and New Brunswick politician. Early life The son of William and Jean Harrison, Harrison received bachelor degrees in Arts and Education from the University of New Brunswick. Political career Harrison was first elected to the legislature in 1978 to represent Saint John-Fundy and was re-elected in 1982. In 1985, he, and two other Saint John-area MLAs, undertook a caucus revolt calling for the resignation of Premier Richard Hatfield. Hatfield made some concessions to them and they were re-integrated to caucus. Harrison was defeated in the 1987 election which saw the Opposition Liberals sweep every seat in the province. Harrison was again defeated in Saint John-Fundy in the 1991 election. He did not contest the 1995 election. Rothesay (electoral District)
Rothesay is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. The riding consists of the Town of Rothesay and its surroundings. The district was created in 1994 as Saint John-Kings out of parts of Saint John County, Kings County and a small portion of the eastern edge of the City of Saint John all in and around the Town of Rothesay, a bedroom community of Saint John. Quispamsis (electoral District)
Quispamsis is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was created as Kennebecasis in 1994 and included the town of Quispamsis and surrounding communities along the Kennebecasis River Valley. The district was reduced in size following the 2006 electoral redistribution such that only the Town of Quispamsis were within it so its name was changed to reflect that. Quispamsis means little lake in the woods. The district will remain relatively unchanged following the 2013 electoral redistribution, losing only some of its eastern polls to Hampton. Saint John East
Saint John East (french: Saint-Jean-Est) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. The riding was created in the 1973 redistribution and was called East Saint John. The riding was created from the two member district of Saint John East, which was divided into this riding and Saint John-Fundy. Under the 1994 redistribution the riding was largely unchanged, losing some territory to Saint John-Fundy while gaining other small parts from Saint John-Fundy and Saint John Park. It was renamed Saint John Champlain as parts of the City of Saint John known locally as East Saint John had been moved out of the district.
