Payolas
Payolas (stylized as Payola$) was a Canadian rock band that was most prominent in the 1980s. Evolving from a new wave sound toward mainstream pop rock, they were best known for the single "Eyes of a Stranger", from their 1982 album '' No Stranger to Danger'', an album that won the band four Juno Awards. Based in Vancouver, the band has experienced several changes to both its name and lineup, having been known as The Payola$, Paul Hyde and the Payolas, and Rock and Hyde. Michael Ronson (26 May 1946 – 29 April 1993) was an English musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer. He achieved critical and commercial success working with David Bowie as the guitarist of the Spiders from Mars. He was a session musician who recorded five studio albums with Bowie followed by four with Ian Hunter, and also worked as a sideman in touring bands with Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. Ronson and Bowie also produced Lou Reed's ''Transformer'' with Ronson playing lead guitar and piano and writing string arrangements, which brought mainstream recognition. ''Here's the World for Ya'' is the fourth album by Paul Hyde and the Payolas, the band previously known as Payolas. Released in 1985, the album is only available on vinyl and cassette; it has not been released on CD. The album was #26 in Canada for 2 weeks. This album was the only Payolas album produced by David Foster, who had been hired to bolster the band's commercial appeal. While promoting the record in 1985, Bob Rock claimed that "osterdidn't take us anywhere we didn't already want to go. Even if David hadn't produced this record, I think it still would have had a more professional sheen than our other albums, because that's what we wanted." Subsequent to this album's release (and A&M's decision to drop the band from that label), the group re-branded themselves as "Rock and Hyde". Paul Reginald Nelson (born 21 May 1955), known by the stage name Paul Hyde, is a British-born Canadian singer-songwriter. He co-founded the rock band Payola$ with Bob Rock, serving as the band's main lyricist and vocalist. Robert Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954) is a Canadian record producer, sound engineer and musician, best known for producing rock bands and music artists such as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, The Tragically Hip, the Cult, 311, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams, the Offspring, Michael Bublé, Black Veil Brides, David Lee Roth, and Ron Sexsmith. Barry Muir (bassist)
Barry Muir (18 September 1937 – 2 September 2022) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach. An Australian and Queensland representative , he played in 22 Tests between 1959 and 1964, as captain on two occasions. Early life Born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Muir grew up at Tweed Heads. Muir was educated and played junior rugby league at Coolangatta State School and represented Queensland Schoolboys in 1951. He would leave school at age 15 to take up a carpentry apprenticeship.
