Hamilton F.C. (1874–78)
Hamilton Football Club was a 19th-century football club based in Hamilton, in Lanarkshire, Scotland. History The club was founded shortly after the dissolution of Hamilton Gymnasium as a footballing section of the Hamilton Cricket Club, with the earliest known match being against Eastern of Glasgow in April 1874. The club promptly entered the second edition of the Scottish Cup, in 1874–75, but after two draws with Rovers at the first round stage, Hamilton scratched. In December 1874, the club's second XI was the first opponent for Hamilton Academical. The club's best run came in 1876–77. At the third round stage, after two draws with Busby, the second in front of a crowd of over 500, both clubs were put through to the fourth round in accordance with the regulations at the time. Hamilton then lost 2–0 at Lancefield of Glasgow in "a very one-sided game". The club's home second round defeat to Uddingston in 1877–78 seems to have been the end of the club. In 18 ... 1876–77 Scottish Cup
The 1876–77 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the fourth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Entries to the competition again increased with a total of 81 clubs involved in the first round draw. This resulted in an earlier start to the competition than in previous seasons with the first matches played on 23 September 1876. The cup was won for the first time by Dunbartonshire club Vale of Leven who defeated Rangers 3–2 in a twice-replayed final. This was the first final which did not involve defending champions Queen's Park who lost 2–1 to Vale of Leven in the quarter-finals and the first time the cup was won by a team from outside Glasgow. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. History This enterprise, according to its founders, was created in January 1994 by three regulars of the Rec.Sport.Soccer (RSS) Usenet newsgroup: Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh, and Karel Stokkermans. It was originally known as the "North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation", but the geographical reference was dropped as its membership from other regions grew. The 1877–78 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the fifth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. For the first time, over 100 teams took part in the competition which began with the first round on 22 September 1877. The cup was won by Vale of Leven for a second time after they defeated Glasgow club 3rd Lanark RV 1–0 in the final on 30 March 1878. Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian were drawn to face each other in the first round in what would be the first competitive Edinburgh derby. Hibernian won 2–1 after a replay. Uddingston ( sco, Uddinstoun, gd, Baile Udain) is a small town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is on the north side of the River Clyde, south-east of Glasgow city centre, and acts as a dormitory suburb for the city. Geography and boundaries Uddingston is located to the south-east of Glasgow city centre and approximately east of the Glasgow City Council boundary (ending at the former Glasgow Zoo at Broomhouse - part of Baillieston). It is bounded to the south-west by the River Clyde as it flows north-west towards Glasgow, separating Uddingston, along with some woodland, from the neighbouring towns of Blantyre to the south and Cambuslang to the west. Lancefield is a town in the Shire of Macedon Ranges local government area in Victoria, Australia north of the state capital, Melbourne and had a population of 2,743 at the 2021 census. History The area was used by the indigenous aboriginal people as a quarry site for the manufacture of stone axes and was first settled by European squatters in 1837. The main source of these stone tools was at Mount William, to the north east of Lancefield. A Lancefield Post Office opened on 16 January 1858 in the Romsey/Five Mile Creek area, to the south.
