Halsey Street is a north-south street in Downtown Newark, New Jersey, which runs in between and parallel to Broad Street and Washington Street. It passes through the city's four historic districts: James Street Commons- Washington Park at the north, the abutting Military Park and Four Corners and, after a two block break, Lincoln Park at the south. Halsey and its side streets have long been the one of city's corridors for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Since the 2000s, the street has undergone a revival as new projects have generated renewed residential, cultural and commercial activities, including a restaurant row. The development has been supported with the city's 2008 ''Living Downtown'' master plan and is part of greater trend in creating a vibrant downtown. Halsey Street (BMT Canarsie Line)
The Halsey Street station is a station on the BMT Canarsie Line of the New York City Subway. Located on the border of Ridgewood, Queens, and Bushwick, Brooklyn, at the intersection of Halsey Street and Wyckoff Avenue, it is served by the L train at all times. History Background The Dual Contracts also called for a subway line initially known as the 14th Street–Eastern District Line, usually shortened to 14th Street–Eastern Line. The line would run beneath 14th Street in Manhattan, from Sixth Avenue under the East River and through Williamsburg to Montrose and Bushwick Avenues in Brooklyn. Booth and Flinn was awarded the contract to construct the line on January 13, 1916. Clifford Milburn Holland served as the engineer-in-charge during the construction. Due to the city's failure to approve the section of the line between Montrose Avenue and East New York, the 14th Street/Eastern Line was initially isolated from the rest of the system. Halsey Street (BMT Jamaica Line)
The Halsey Street station is a local station on the BMT Jamaica Line of the New York City Subway. Located at Halsey Street and Broadway at the border of Bedford–Stuyvesant and Bushwick, Brooklyn, it is served by the J train at all times. The Z train skips this station when it operates. Station layout This elevated station, opened on August 19, 1885, has two side platforms and three tracks; the center express track is not used in regular service. Both platforms have beige windscreens and green canopies and support columns with red roofs along the entire length except for a small section at either end, where they have high mesh fences instead. The station signs are in the black name plates in white Helvetica lettering. The 2008 artwork here is called ''SOL'SCRYPT'' by SOL'SAX.
