Halime Hatun (fictional Character)
Halime Hatun, also known as Halime Sultan due to her royal status, is a character in the Turkish TV series '' Diriliş: Ertuğrul''. Halime is portrayed by Turkish actress Esra Bilgiç and the character is based on the alleged mother of Osman I, Halime Hatun. In the series, she is shown as a Seljuk princess and Ertuğrul's first wife. Background Halime Sultan grew up in her uncle Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat's palace. Born to Şehzade Numan, she spent several years with her father and brother in exile, fleeing from traitors and tyrants. When she was captured by the Templar knight Bisol, she and her family were saved by Ertuğrul, after Halime's father called for help when Ertuğrul was hunting a gazelle. Ertuğrul Bey
Ertuğrul or Ertuğrul Gazi ( ota, ارطغرل, Erṭoġrıl; tk, ; died ) was a 13th century bey, who was the father of Osman I. Little is known about Ertuğrul's life. According to Ottoman tradition, he was the son of Suleyman Shah, the leader of the Kayı tribe (a claim which has come under criticism from many historians) of the Oghuz Turks (known as Turkomans by then). These Turkomans fled from western Central Asia to Anatolia to escape the Mongol conquests, but he may instead have been the son of Gündüz Alp. According to this legend, after the death of his father, Ertuğrul and his followers entered the service of the Sultanate of Rum, for which he was rewarded with dominion over the town of Söğüt on the frontier with the Byzantine Empire. The Kayı or Kayi tribe ( Middle Turkic: قَيِغْ ''qayïγ'' or simply ''qayig''; tr, Kayı boyu, tk, Gaýy taýpasy) were an Oghuz Turkic people and a sub-branch of the Bozok tribal federation. In his ''Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk,'' the 11th century Kara-Khanid scholar Mahmud al-Kashgari cited as of one of 22 Oghuz tribes, saying that Oghuz were also called Turkomans. Süleyman Şah (fictional Character)
Süleyman Şah, is one of the main characters in the first season of Turkish TV series, '' Diriliş: Ertuğrul'', portrayed by Serdar Gökhan. He later appears as a guest character in later seasons, as well as in its sequel, '' Kuruluş: Osman'', where he is played by the same actor. The character is based on Suleyman Shah, the possible grandfather of Osman I. Background Süleyman Şah was raised by his father Kaya Alp, along with his adoptive brothers Kurdoğlu and Alptekin. Princess Saljan ( az, Şahzadə Selcan, tr, Prensesi Selcan) is a character in the ''Book of Dede Korkut'' and other Turkic mythology. Osman I or Osman Ghazi ( ota, عثمان غازى, translit= ʿOsmān Ġāzī; tr, I. Osman or ''Osman Gazi''; died 1323/4), sometimes transliterated archaically as Othman, was the founder of the Ottoman Empire (first known as the Ottoman Beylik or Emirate). While initially a small Turkoman principality during Osman's lifetime, his descendants transformed into a world empire in the centuries after his death. Halime Hatun
Halime Hatun ( ota, حلیمه خاتون) was, according to some Ottoman folklore, the wife of Ertuğrul (13th century) and possibly the mother of Osman I. Biography Her origins are unknown; she is variously referred to as "Hayme Ana" in later legends, and is not mentioned at all in any historical Ottoman texts. Hayme Ana is also a traditional name of Ertuğrul's mother. Historian Heath W. Lowry, among other Ottoman scholars, states that Osman I's mother is unknown. The burial place of Halime Hatun, which was added in the late 19th century by Sultan Abdul Hamid II, is located in the garden of the Ertuğrul Gazi's grave in Söğüt, present-day Turkey. According to historian Cemal Kafadar, the 19th century "recovery" and "rebuilding" of this tomb by the Sultan, with the name added later, was politically motivated. She is best known for portraying the role of Halime Hatun in the Turkish historical adventure television series '' Diriliş: Ertuğrul'' from 2014 to 2018. Among other roles, she starred in the 2020–2021 crime drama ''Ramo''. Career Bilgiç was born on 14 October 1992 in Ankara, Turkey.
