Hal Lashwood's Alabama Jubilee
''Hal Lashwood's Alabama Jubilee'' was an Australian television variety series hosted by Hal Lashwood which aired from 1958 to 1961 on ABC Television. It was essentially a minstrel show, with some of the performers appearing in blackface makeup. In 1960, it was retitled ''Hal Lashwood's Minstrels''. ''Hal Lashwood's Alabama Jubilee'' ''Hal Lashwood's Alabama Jubilee'' began in Sydney on 6 March 1958. It aired in Sydney on Thursdays and Melbourne on Fridays. It was devised and prepared by Lashwood and produced by Harry Pringle. It aired fortnightly, alternating with '' Cafe Continental'', a variety series featuring acts of diverse ethnic backgrounds. ABC Television (Australian TV Network)
ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV. The Australian public broadcaster's television service was launched in November 1956 from its first television station in Australia, ABN Sydney. This was the second one in the country, with the commercial channel TCN having launched two months earlier. Wilma Reading is a singer from Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Reading began her singing career in 1959 after singing for friends at a Brisbane jazz club. Noeleen Batley (born 25 December 1944) was an Australian pop star in the 1960s and early 1970s. She was known as "Australia's Little Miss Sweetheart". Early life Batley was born in Sydney on Christmas Day, 1944, and began singing at the age of five with her mother's encouragement. As a child, she sang on radio shows such as 2UE's ''Youth Parade'', 2UW's ''Amateur Hour'' and the ABC's ''Rockville Junction''. She entered numerous talent competitions, and eventually won her first recording contract, with Festival Records, in 1960 as a prize in a singing competition. Career Batley's first record "Starry Eyed" was released in February 1960, but was not a success. Robert John Lea Allen (23 October 1907 – 25 May 1995) was an English film, theatre and television actor. He made his stage debut in 1931 at the Liverpool Playhouse, appearing in ''The Swan'' and had a long theatrical career which lasted until 1980, when he appeared at the Old Vic in a production of ''The Merchant of Venice''.
